Occupy Wall Street

Here is how I view the US right now. The vast majority of the pople are willing to do whats best for everyone. Lets say you have 1000 people in a city. 950 of them are willing to do whatever it takes to make the city as a whole better. Then you have these 50 other guys who want to do whatever it takes to make them better. These guys claim that greed is good and its just the markets and how they function. So they line there pockets and now have more influence to line them more. The 950 starts to fall apart. They naively assumed everyone was with them and for the greater good of all, but now these 50 are driving nice cars etc. etc. "Why should I play by the rules and care about the society as a whole when this guy is not and there is no consequence for him?" I think that a big part of this is just to make sure that these people know that most of us think their assholes. Greed rules this place and the people who want to do things for the betterment of all are the ones who are punished.

as an aside. Maybe thats what you get when you build a country based on individualism and not collectivism. And no that does not mean Socialism. That means creating a culture where people care much more about their work and personal status then overall wellness. We work ourselves to death trying to keep up with the Jones's.

WTF town do you live in?

I would say 900 of them would worry for themselves 100 would help the community along with themselves. There's nothing wrong with worrying for yourself, but most people are simply concerned with their own (and their families) well being.

If 90% of people are that self centered then we are all fucked.

Now you're catching on...

One of the reasons that I am not that patriotic. Tons of great stuff in this country. That is not one of them. We don't have a monopoly on greed, but other countries certainly have better priorities. One Day.

Fareed is one of my favorite journalists. In my opinion he is the best CNN has to offer, and I like CNN.

This may be the single best interview regarding how our economy isnt working and how both parties arent addressing it. Also talks about the real economy vs the one we have now, and how GDP isnt a measurement of the real economy.

Seriously spend 45 minutes listening to this, it's THAT good.

Took this guy six months to realize (or admit) the problems that were obvious from the start.
