Trading Carson to a team in the same conference with the same record is not the best move in the short term as this could come back to haunt this team later in the season if both teams are vying for a playoff spot. But it's still early and it's alot of football left to be played. In the long term we raped the Raiders with no lube on this one, we could have 4 first round picks in the next 2 yrs and with the new pay structure for rookies that makes these picks even more vaulable.

Obviously this trade means the world is coming to an end, that is the only logical explanation.

Shaelyn Palmer is from Bay Area. Lets not forget the woman behind all of this. Hope Hue hands the mic to her first at the presser. :)

Our current defensive line is going to give that statue nightmares if/when we play them. Not worried about that at all. I mean, what defense would know his tendencies better than ours? I actually would look forward to that matchup. Its favorable to the Bengals and we have better WR and TE talent than the Raiders do. Some would argue better QB talent as well...

Palmer headed to Raiders

It was going to take a blockbuster for any team to acquire Carson Palmer, and it looks like the Raiders are the party to do it.

In one of the biggest trading deadline day deals in league history, the Raiders will send the Bengals a 2012 first-round pick and a 2013 conditional that would become a first-rounder if certain incentives are met.

Palmer has a history with Raiders head coach Hue Jackson. It was Jackson who helped recruit Palmer to Southern Cal and Jackson was the receivers coach in Cincinnati for three seasons (2004-06). Even though he had been considered retired, Palmer’s workouts during the offseason were normal as if he would be playing.

Since the season started, he has been working out regularly with former Bengals wide receiver T.J. Houshmandzadeh.

The trade might also clear up who Marvin Lewis meant by “he” yesterday when he said: “I can’t change people’s minds about things. You know what I mean? Someone has done a very good job of driving them (the fans) away from here. And he’s been very wrong.”

Lewis doesn’t have a habit of biting comments about players until he knows they are certain not to come back (see Chad Ochocinco earlier this offseason).

Last season, Palmer set a team record for pass attempts with 586, completing 362 (61.8 percent) for 3970 yards with 26 touchdowns and 20 interceptions (passer rating of 82.4). The interceptions tied a career high and five of those were returned for touchdowns.

Over his eight seasons in Cincinnati, Palmer was 46-51 as a starter. He holds the career franchise records for completion percentage (62.9) and passer rating (86.9). He is third in attempts (3,217), yards (22,694), touchdown passes (154), interceptions (103) and 300-yard games (17) and second in completions (2,204).

Palmer was slated to make $11 million this season. With the first six games missed, the prorated portion would be down to $6.9 million. With Oakland having only $6 million in salary cap room, the contract would have to be renegotiated which with incentives would have to put the cap number around $5 million.

He is slated to make $11.5 million in 2012, $13 million in 2013 and $14 million in 2014. There is also a $1 million roster bonus the next three seasons.

The Raiders, who are 4-2 this season and only one game out in the AFC West, are scheduled to visit Cincinnati next season.

I'm so horny right now. Greatest news ever. Gotta see these "conditional" numbers to see what he can get.

I just keep thinking, 2 first round picks in next years draft when this team already has one of the best young rosters in the league.

Thank you Oakland, Hue Jackson, Marvin Lewis, Mike Brown and of course........Carson Palmer.

Still amazed at Palmer deal - Bengals could be a very, very good team in a couple yrs if they draft right. Good for Carson too. Home to Cali

Carson Palmer deal is done. High price -- First in 2012, conditional 1/2 in 2013. Now it's up to Palmer to prove he's worth that.

hahahaha this is awesome...possible 2 first round picks...lol what are the Raiders thinking? I have to take it back that Mike Brown did something not only right, but awesome!

too bad we probably have to root for palmer to do well (so we are sure to get the 2nd pick) but the raiders to suck so we beat them in for the wildcard?

Agreed.

Fathead needs to sell a conversion kit for my Carson Palmer fathead out in the garage.

Bengals > Raiders

But I definitely am interested in watching Carson Palmer turn his career around.

Its easily the best deal they could get since the Raiders are trying to take advantage of being a good team so far this season.
Now they don't have to deal with the Palmer questions all the time and can use those picks to possibly upgrade the O-Line.
If either of these picks is a wr I take everything back...
