cpalmer2004
Just heard it on ESPN that Mike Brown wanted Ryan Mallet instead of Andy Dalton. Sheftner went on to say that Gruden and others talked him into Dalton. Glad we got Dalton but I think Mallet will be good to learning under Brady. Bengals1181
yea this came out at draft time. Surprised ESPN is just coming out with it. It wasn't exactly a secret. Brown was in love with Mallet's arm, the coaching staff preferred Dalton.
Jason
Honestly, so did I. I'm happy with Dalton's play so far though.
Tigris
I kinda liked Mallet myself. Anyway, I read the other day that Marvin liked Dalton before Gruden watched any film on him.

|Elflocko|
Never liked Mallet due to the "CooCoo for Cocoa Puffs" factor and was ambivalent when we picked Dalton. Really happy with Dalton so far though...
Tigris
During the draft I was very against drafting Green for a couple reasons. One, we had two young guys starting at the end of the year (Simpson, Caldwell) who did well and a 2nd year guy in Shipley who caught 50 balls as a rookie. Not to mention Gresham who can split out as a WR. The second was because our offensive line was such a mess last year (with our scheme) that I didn't think drafting a WR made any sense especially when we didn't even have a QB to throw him the ball. Well, Dalton in round 2 fixed that hole. Gruden's style compliments our OL well enough to get by. The future looks bright.
Bengals1181
I liked both Mallett and Dalton coming out but was torn between the two. Mallett has the much better arm and a much higher ceiling IMO. Dalton was a much better fit for Gruden's system though and has more intangibles. cincity
I watched a lot of Mallet last year, and I would have been hyped to get him in the 2nd round. Gruden would have made Mallet fit... But now that we have AD, I couldn't be happier!
Elijah15
Lol i wanted mallet too but also andy dallton, i honestly didnt care if we picked either of them but glad seattle didnt pick him in the 1st
Jamie_B
Mallet is a poor mans Carson Palmer. Cannon of an arm and can make the throws, but man is he a statue.
|Lucid|
There are concerns about Mallet between the ears. You can't coach or scheme around that. Dalton my not have the arm. but he does have it everywhere else. And I would be willing to bet his arm will get stronger.. I was never a fan of Mallet, but didn't know what to think of Dalton. I did know that I liked what I was seeing from Gruden, and he positively looked like he had just lifted the "Darya-ye Noor" and no one was the wiser at the draft presser. sammyj1404
I think its definitely safe to say that Marvin got some more control when he signed his extension...
texbengal
Mike Brown is a QB guy, and leading up to the draft, between arm and assessment of "pro readiness'" a lot if folks put Mallet at the top. I think he can be a good QB, but I'm glad we have Dalton. I love the intangibles aspect the most. I also was put off by Mallet a bit, re his between the ears and off-field stuff. AZBengal
This came out around the time of the draft but it was all based on speculation. It got repeated so often that people acted like it was a fact.
BengalRep85-9
The sooner mikey is removed from all football related decisions the better chance this organization has to build a perennial contender. So this knowledge that he may be losing some power is GREAT news

It wasn't exactly a secret. [/quote] Or maybe they despise the fact that they haven't got much to complain about on the Bengals since the quitter and the two divas have left,so they're dragging up old shit to try and make it look like dissension. I'm as unsurprised as it's possible to be.

kdubdub
Dalton was the more NFL ready qb at the time of the draft, which he has proven to be. Longterm there is no way to tell who will be the better of the two.
