Dalton up for Pepsi NFL Rookie of the Week for 4th time this season (winner!)

Bengals quarterback [url="http://www.bengals.com/team/roster/andy-dalton/9378c4ed-938c-434c-929d-4d45fe252101/"]Andy Dalton[img]http://www.bengals.com/assets/nflimg/icon-article-link.gif[/img][/url] is one of five nominees for Pepsi Rookie of the Week for his effort in Cincinnati's 24-17 victory over the Titans last Sunday.

Dalton passed for 217 yards and three touchdowns in leading the Bengals to their fifth consecutive victory. The win enabled the Bengals to grab a share of the AFC North lead with Baltimore at 6-2.

Dalton is up against Washington running back Roy Helu, Atlanta wide receiver Julio Jones, Dallas running back DeMarco Murray and Arizona cornerback/punt returner Patrick Peterson in this week's voting.

The winner will be announced Friday on NFL.com.

After the regular season, five players will be nominated for Pepsi NFL Rookie of the Year honors. The winner will be announced at a press conference at Super Bowl XLVI in Indianapolis.

Has Cam surprised you this season ? I mean with how well he has played so far ? He and Dalton doing this well with the lockout and all, it's hard to believe

I was never that impressed with the initial reasoning pre-draft that he would be a bust because his dad did stuff.

I haven't looked at his numbers in detail to see how impressive they are. 10-40 is less impressive than 25-40. 300 yards isn't that impressive if it comes along with three picks. I tend not to think much of rushing yards for QBs because the good defenses will shut that down if you can't keep them honest with actual passes.

What really has surprised me is how I see him hit Steve Smith with nobody within 15 yards... Has everyone forgotten to cover that guy in the last three years?

yea Newton has exceeded my expectations, but Smith bails him out a lot. A lot of Newton's yardage comes from him just tossing it up and hoping Smith comes down with it. To the contrary, Dalton is hitting tight windows and relying more on accuracy.

He beat Redskins running back Roy Helu, Cowboys running back DeMarco Murray, Falcons wide receicver Julio Jones, and Cardinals cornerback Patrick Peterson.

Dalton has been nominated four times. The only two-time winner has been 49ers linebacker Aldon Smith.
