The Reds have agreed to sign former first round pick Andrew Brackman to a Major League deal, according to Jon Heyman of CBSSports.com. The 26-year-old Cincinnati native will earn the MLB minimum plus incentives.

The Yankees selected Brackman 30th overall in 2007, but he recorded just seven outs for them in the Major Leagues. The 6'10" right-hander posted a 5.11 ERA with 5.0 BB/9 in three minor league seasons with the Yankees. The Yankees declined their 2012 option on Brackman making him a free agent.
I don't know a lot about Latos, but I'm not sure the Reds got the best of this trade. Wasn't Grandal just our #1 pick last year???

Reds acquire SD’s Mat Latos for Yonder Alonso, Brad Boxberger, Yasmani Grandal and Edinson Volquez.

Pretty big price, but Latos has #1 upside and doesn't walk every other batter.
Hopefully moving from a big park to a park that can play small doesn't hurt him to much.

Wow thats a huge trade. Guy is only 24 and definitely has number 1 potential. Had an era below 3 in 2010 and a little over 3 in 2011. I dont mind the trade, Alonso and Grandal were both blocked and Volquez was wasting all his talent.

This gives you a rotation this year of:
1. Cueto
2. Latos
3. Leake
4. Arroyo
5. Homer

And then you still have Wood and Chapman. I think that is a pretty good rotation. I wonder if they would consider making Chapman the closer? I dont know who he would replace in the rotation. I wish we could trade Bronson...

Everyone was bitching that Walt wasnt making a move, now people are bitching he gave up too much. I think we have to make a run at things this year, and to get a cheap top of the rotation guy that you have under control through 2016 is huge for this team. I dont think the other 4 guys would have contributed that much this year.

I do think the Pads got a pretty good deal as well for the position they are in, but we need to win now whereas the pads are looking a few years out probably.

Good to see him going for the gold, I just don't want to see this team fall apart when Joey leaves because we emptied our farm for Latos.

I guess in hindsight, we couldn't hold onto Alonso for two more years and keep him on the bench. I just wish they would have kept Grandal out of it.

Either way, can't have enough pitching. Two of the top pitchers in the NL now reside on our team and we have a couple of guys with good potential.

I think Grandal was going to be in the same position as Alonso was. Im really high on Mes and think he is going to be a pretty good starting catcher. Grandal would have had to change positions. Boxberger looks like he could be decent, but hes never played in the ML so who knows.

Yeah I dont think anyone will deny we gave up a lot...but we kinda had to. I think we are starting to look at a 2-3 year window to win, so hoping they continue to go all in now.

Per Fay, jocketty said there could be another trade soon. Maybe for a closer? Or LF?

By the way...Latos-24, Cueto-25, Leake-24, Bailey-25, Chapman-23, Wood-24

Might not be the best rotation in baseball, but when you consider their ages and depth its gotta have the potential to be.

In my opinion the Reds gave up the farm for one guy, and I don't think it was a smart move. Have they even signed Votto to an extension yet?
