It's the exact reason Va Tech and Michigan got picked for the Sugar Bowl. Teams that have a better traveling fan base will get the better bowls. It's not really fair but it's all about the money. After the BCS championship game... it is all about conference affiliations and money. Period. Florida bowls are notorious for taking Florida (with a lesser record) than several other SEC schools for no other reason than they'll sell the tickets because it is close. I've seen it where Florida was 3 games worse... The conferences don't even fight for the schools to be slotted according to conference record. They just try to get as many bowl tie-ins as possible (READ: guaranteed money to the conference) and then leave it to the schools and bowls to negotiate...
