Bush visiting

What's the deal with Brian Leonard, why he is not being discussed in the plans for rb. All I hear about is B Scott and some rb to be named at a later date. Leonard has been the most clutch player on this team for the past few years, he deserves a shot, he's earned it.

IMHO Bush is a more complete back than Leonard.

Leonard averages 4.1 yards each carry and 7.3 yards on receptions.
Bush averages 4.2 yards each carry and 9.7 yards on receptions.

Add in the fact that Bush also can play QB which makes him more versatile.

I think Leonard is great at what he does, but making him into an every down back isn't likely. I do think I would like to see more of him, but he is best when used situationally. He's just not explosive enough to be a starting back.

What? Just because he played QB in high school doesn't mean he can do it in the NFL, c'mon man! He also played LB, DE, CB, S, and WR in high school, do you think he can play those positions in the NFL too?

Sounds like Bush and Leonard are very similar players, doesn't make sense to have two of the same type of players if you are using a committee approach to the rb position.

"Bush met with Bengals coach Marvin Lewis at Arizona State's pro day, sources told NFL Network insider Jason La Canfora. His visit with Cincinnati was not scheduled to start until Monday, however. He has already visited the Bears, and ESPN.com reported Monday that he will add a visit to the Seahawks on Tuesday." - according to NFL.com

So apparently he was going to Arizona to meet with Marvin not the Cardinals after all...interesting...

disagree. You're right, they are very similar, and I think that's great.

at low price it could happen, no need to hurry for Bengals, they have options - “[s]@[/s]walzav31: Odds Bush signs with Bengals?

I agree with this

^^^This. The market for Bush is just not that high and missing out on him isn't a big deal really, so why not wait and get him for the right price. We're the only place looking at him that would make him a starter, so I say we still hold the cards no matter who he meets with.

Being from NJ, you're not likely to find a bigger Brain Leonard than me. He doesn't really have the power or speed to be an every down back. Leonard is a great complimentary piece. Think Kevin Faulk. If he had to carry the load every where, he'd out of the league in 3 years...but as a role player, he could play for a decade.

I do not believe he can be a starting QB in the NFL. However, he was recruited intially at Louisville to be a QB. He only had two passes in college and one of them was a 48 yard TD. IMHO, having a RB that can throw the ball decently is a threat that the defenses can not simply ignore. Add in the fact he is a better receiver than Leonard and Bush has my vote. Bush nearly gets a 1st down every time he gets a reception.

I'm not saying give the guy the ball 30 times a game, but atleast include him the conversation. He's not being discussed when people are talking about who is going to be the rb for the season. It's always B Scott and some back to named later, Leonard doesn't even get a shout out. He can handle 10-15 carries a game with 5-7 passes out of the backfield and make it through a season. I think Leonard is getting taken for granted, I can't count on my hands and toes the number of times he has saved this team's ass with a clutch play when the game was on the line. Leaping Leonard is the man, he deserves to have his role expanded, imo.

So he has thrown 2 passes since he graduated high school and you want him to throw it in the NFL....ok....I would rather have Dalton making the throws than a rb who played qb in high school and has thrown the ball 2 times since...but that's just me, call me crazy.

No one is suggesting that Bush will be in the running at QB. But that he could be the emergency QB if Dalton and Gradkowski both get hurt.

No offense...BUT.....That is the most ridiculous thing I've ever heard, but I guess that is what message boards are for...Am I right!!!??!!!!

Dan LeFevour is 9th on the all-time passing list for CFB, in 4 yrs he threw for almost 13,000 yrds and he couldn't make it as the 3rd string qb, why would you even consider a guy who threw 2 passes in college to be the qb.

You guys are trying to punk me right...I sense some serious trolling going on right now. Ok you got me!!! I thought you guys were serious for a minute, that was a good one fellas.

Is Dan on the roster? No. Last season the Bengals only carried 2 QBs on the roster. If both guys go down during a game, you can't call up a guy from the practice squad, or sign a guy out of the stands during the game.

Its not even this Jason. What the man said is that when you hand the ball off on a wide run, in the back of the mind of the safety, there is a mini thought that he CAN fling the ball. The threat that the RB could make the throw is another weapon in the holster.

It can also offer a wildcat option.

you know who the emergency QB for the Bengals was last year? Andre Caldwell. He was a high school QB too, with 3 passes attempted in college.

Partly the reasoning but the real reasoning behind it is just simply having the threat of a RB that can throw.

I also believe that Jay Gruden would rather have a RB that can gain yards in receiving. From 2002-2008 Jon Gruden had a lead RB that averaged 403 yards receiving. The Bengals averaged 249 yards receiving out of their lead RB from 2005-2010.

Michael Bush had 418 yards receiving in 2011.

Well, considering our current "emergency QB" is a UFA, it may be.

I guess I haven't gotten that vibe. If you asked me, I would assume adding Bush meant our depth chart would look like Bush-draft pick-Leonard with Scott/Peerman fighting for the last spot.

I thought it was a forgone conclusion that Leonard would still be our primary 3rd down back...at least until a draft pick or someone else steps up and shows that they deserve that role over Leonard. I'm glad to have the dude on our team, always knows where the first down marker is, makes the proper decision to get out of bounds or stay in bounds at every opportunity, great in protection and has some magic in his feet when we need a 1st down most.
