April 24, 201213 yr comment_1121119
Jeffrey's production in the SEC doesn't really mean a whole lot. It's all about projecting how they will play in the NFL. Hill came from a gimmicky run first and second offense where he still put up respectable numbers despite not seeing a quarter of the passes Jeffrey saw. Hill blows Jeffrey away in athletic ability. Hill is said to be intelligent, hard working and high character. Jeffrey has questions about his work ethic. Hill's potential is much higher and there's an element of unknown because of the offense he came from. Hill has looked great running routes at his pro days and combine and I think teams are excited to see what he can do in a NFL style offense. Jeffrey is the safer pick but it's no surprise Hill is rated higher by everyone.
Doesn't matter for two major reasons. Bengals scouted and won with AJ Green a year ago. They simply will have first had knowledge of the level of competition that Jeffrey will have gone agains and how he performed. Second, you have to assume they've scouted CBs for this draft. It's seems at alot of CBs have SEC ties. One guy mocked to the Bengals is Gilmore. Which is a teamate of Jeffrey's. Bengals are going to have the book on Jeffrey. It's only the question is: Do they like what they see? Report
April 24, 201213 yr comment_1121120
2012 NFL Draft: Wide Receiver Michael Floyd Unimpressive In Interviews, Per Report Notre Dame wide receiver Michael Floyd has been a popular pick for the Cincinnati Bengals, especially lately. Yesterday, Joe Reedy had Floyd, widely regarded as the second-best receiver in this year's draft class, going to the Bengals at No. 17. The selection makes sense, consider Cincinnati is in need of a No. 2 receiver opposite of A.J. Green. However one reason Floyd may still be available at No. 17 (or maybe even No. 21), however, is due to character concerns among NFL front offices. NFL Network's Mike Lombardi does not include Floyd in his top-20 prospects due to poor interviews and off the field issues "I've heard so many conflicting reports on his off-the-field activities," Lombardi said. "I've heard from reliable people in the league that he wasn't that impressive in his interviews." Michael Floyd was a bonafide star on the field at Notre Dame, posting 100 receptions, 1,147 yards receiving and nine touchdowns last year. However off-the-field issues were a legitimate concern. During the offseason leading up to his final season with Notre Dame, Floyd was arrested for drunk driving and subsequently suspended from the team for four months. While he didn't miss any games, he significantly risked his reputation, and should teams be weary of Floyd's character following the incident, he may again feel those consequences on draft day. Floyd wouldn't have likely been considered a possibility at No. 17 or No. 21 if these character issues did not exist, so this most recent news regarding his poor interviews should not affect his place on Cincinnati's Big Board. But then again, the Bengals have taken chances on players with far deeper criminal histories than one DUI (see: PacMan Jones; Cedric Benson). If Mike Brown, Marvin Lewis, and the rest of the Bengals' front office were high on Floyd before this report, then they probably remain so.
damn spicoli, you're getting hard up for resources. http://www.sbnation.com/users/Jack%20Cassidy Report

Phenom level physicality, but let his personal associations with LESS THAN STELLER FOLKS get in the way of bringing phenom level play to the field. Coaches had some serious talks with him about upping his commitment to CFB, the team, work level, and his future. We saw it on 50% of his catches last year, the other 50%, we were tearing our hair out. What’s his commitment going to be when there is a paycheck and bonus on the line? How good are your coaches in putting some emphasis on NFL being the big stage, and shedding some hangers on who will hold him back? I’m wondering if the brain trusts in the draft room will settle on 2nd round, let him prove, or not prove himself, and his 2nd contract is all-Pro level? Is he a Himes Ward level performer, is he a leader? Report
April 24, 201213 yr comment_1121133 Agree with everything you've said, TPM. Hill will be another nobody in just a few years. A project is the last thing we need at WR. Do you people forget we just got rid of another one?? That we have a young QB who could use legitimate, experienced assistance right now? Hill would be a disaster of a pick. Report
April 24, 201213 yr comment_1121140 something to keep in mind with hill and jeffery: In the past 2 years the Bengals showed tremendous interest in both green and gresham. Neither Hill or Jeffery have been in for private workouts to PBS, no offensive staff were at Jeffery's pro day (reportedly) and only Hue Jackson was at Hill's pro day. We know Hue's not just a defensive coach, but you'd think Urban or Gruden would have gone. Report

Check out this mock draft on sbnation: http://www.milehighr...s-select-alshon Surprisingly this mock has the Bengals taking Jeffery with the 21st pick, gives good reasoning why this should happen.
Alshon Jeffery, wide receiver, South Carolina Bengals' GM: Vancezack GM Explanation: Alshon Jeffery in my eyes is the third best receiver in the draft behind Floyd and Blackmon. If not for a ‘drunk' of a quarterback and the lack of an offensive line to get him the ball, his numbers would have been WAY better. People don't like the fact that he gained a little weight and didn't seem to have much motivation while playing, but who would when you have a quarterback who can't get you the ball when you are open. Adding Jeffery, who is a bigger more possession receiver in the NFL, to the likes of Green, Gresham, and Shipley would make - There were a couple different routes that the Bengals could take here. After drafting a CB with their 17[sup]th[/sup] overall pick addressed their biggest need this off-season, even after signing Newman. The next biggest needs in my opinion would be: WR, DE, and OG. With the signing of Travelle Wharton and Jacob Bell, and drafting Clint Boling last year they could wait a round or two to draft one to compete for the starter's role or for quality depth. That leaves DE and WR, there were a couple DE's that caught my eye for the Bengals such as Nick Perry, or Andre Branch. Drafting Perry would make it so that he wasn't rushed into a starter's role right away and to learn and come in on obvious passing downs, easing his way into the league and becoming a dominant force on and already outstanding defensive line. Although that would be a great pick to get after the likes of Roethslisberger, Flacco, and McCoy, I don't see them doing it with another need that's bigger and has an elite talent in Jeffery. The Bengals offense would be more explosive and balanced. Now teams won't have the chance to double Green and will have to respect the weapons on this team. With the Bengals getting Jeffery I see them as a top offense in the league next year and a dangerous team to face. Commissioner's Analysis: I can't say I would argue this pick for the Bengals here. They are getting a guy who could vault their offense to new heights. They don't have a lot of huge needs, and getting a guy like Jeffery is a luxury they can afford with two first round picks. I think he would add a dimension to their offense that not many other teams have, and with A.J. Green on the other side, they could be very, very good in the passing game.
Report

April 24, 201213 yr comment_1121181 just don't see it happening with jeffery. They haven't shown any reported interest in him, and if you look back at their recent draft picks (and other first round targets) they bring in guys for workouts that they use first round picks on. They haven't brought in Jeffery, or Hill for that matter (unless it flew under everyone's radar). They have however brought in Randle. First round guys they HAVE brought in include Kuechley, Kirkpatrick, Konz, Brockers, Upshaw, Floyd, Glenn, Barron, and Randle (fwiw I've only confirmed 23 of the 30 visits they were allowed) Report
