I was not big on Sanu, as all of you know, but in fairness to him he played on probably the worst offense in the Big East year in year out. 3 rookie qb's during his career there. They all were terrible. And the reason he played the slot so much is because it was the only way they could overcome the QB suckitude to get the ball in his hands. He was the Rutgers offense.

Well Sanu IS the Qb on alot of highlights. He played as a wildcat Qb until his junior season

BTW, he makes me think of a slightly bigger Hines Ward, minus the vagina

Yeah dude. I thought the same thing.

This guy sounds like he could be a guy very similar to TJ and Hines which would be a blessing for us. We need that guy whom can grab 5-6 catches a game for 75 yards and maybe a score. I like the fact that he can run the ball too. He brings a lot of interesting possibilities!

Mohamed Sanu was a well-regarded prospect coming into the draft, but not so highly regarded that we thought we’d be writing three posts about him before the weekend was out.

Thanks to a prank phone call, that’s just what we’re doing. Sanu was the victim of a prankster — a fellow Rutgers student apparently — who told him he would be drafted by the Bengals during the first round on Thursday night. He wasn’t their pick, it was guard Kevin Zeitler of Wisconsin, and the story spread like wildfire on Friday. It wound up with a happy ending when the Bengals called him on Friday night to make him the 82nd overall choice.

“I said, ‘Hey Mo, it’s James Urban. You want to be a Bengal — this time, for real?’” receivers coach James Urban told the Associated Press.

Sanu said that he’s “hysterically laughing” about the whole thing right now which is likely a 180 degree change from his reaction when he realized the call on Thursday wasn’t legitimate. If Sanu turns out to be the complement to A.J. Green that the Bengals hope he can be, the team will likely be cackling right alongside him for years to come.

Rutgers WR Mohamed Sanu drafted in third round by Cincinnati Bengals

Published: Friday, April 27, 2012, 10:27 PM Updated: Saturday, April 28, 2012, 1:09 AM
By Tom Luicci/The Star-Ledger
This time, it really was the Cincinnati Bengals calling Mohamed Sanu.
A day and two rounds after he was thevictim of a prank by someone claiming to represent the Bengals and telling him he was the team’s first-round pick (and 27th overall),Rutgers’ record-setting wide receiver wound up going to Cincinnati in the third round of last night’s NFL Draft.
The 6-2, 215-pound Sanu was the 83rd player taken overall.
Sanu, who set a school and Big East record with 115 catches last season (for 1,206 yards and seven touchdowns), had been projected as going anywhere from the middle of the second round to the third round by most experts after leaving school following his junior year.
That’s why the call on Thursday that he had been drafted by the Bengals in the first round surprised his agent, Mike McCartney, who nonetheless felt the alert was authentic and tweeted “SANU to Bengals!!!!!!” along with another tweet about how happy he was for his client.

Sanu, it turned out, had the last laugh.
“I’m hysterically laughing about that now,” he said of the prank call. “I saw a voicemail from (513 area code last night). Then (wide receivers) coach (James) Urban called me and I picked it up and he said ‘Are you ready to be a Bengal for real this time?’ And I said ‘Of course, I’m ready to go.’ Now I’m a Cincinnati Bengal.”

The former South Brunswick High School star wasn’t nearly as amused when the prank call was first made, however. The Bengals had actually drafted Wisconsin guard Kevin Zeitler in the first round, with McCartney realizing something was amiss when he saw the pick on ESPN.

“My mind doesn’t work like that. It just doesn’t think, ‘Oh, this could be a prank call,’ ” McCartney said. “It was some kid from Rutgers who said his friend got (Sanu’s) phone and played a practical joke. He was apologetic. He said he doesn’t work for the athletic department and wouldn’t tell me how he got Mohamed’s number, wouldn’t tell me his name.”

Sanu, Rutgers’ career leader with 210 receptions, did his best to gather himself and began looking forward last night’s second day of the draft, McCartney said.

“It was a terrible experience. I wouldn’t wish it upon anyone,” Sanu said. “I’m just thankful that God gave me the blessing to be picked by the Bengals, and I’m very thankful to be a Bengal.

“My agent called (the person who made the fake call) and it was a kid playing a prank, and he said he was very sorry and that he didn’t mean anything by it. I’m glad it’s over. Dreams came true and now I’m a Bengal.”

At Cincinnati, Sanu will be a teammate of former Rutgers standout Brian Leonard. It was Leonard’s career record of 207 catches that Sanu broke.

“There really isn’t anything Mo can’t do on the football field,” said Rutgers coach Kyle Flood. “He embodies what our players are all about – he is smart, fast and tough. For all the reasons the NFL loves Ray Rice, they will love Mo. The Cincinnati Bengals are getting a terrific person – and player – in Mo Sanu.”

Team, position: Bengals wide receiver

Round: Third

Kiper's comment: While Sanu isn't much of a home run threat because he lacks top-end speed, he's crafty and will work zones and the middle of the field to get open. You never know, but I can see him and Andy Dalton developing chemistry.

Hensley's comment: Sanu will have the opportunity to make an impact because the Bengals' No. 2 receiver job is open. But I also like wide receiver Marvin Jones, who was picked in the fifth round.

Yeah, that was a great clip that showed a totally different dimension than the ones I'd seen before. Lots more YAC on here, and how about that blocking?! Woah. Several de-cleaters in there. I guess we can also run the wildcat if we ever want to...

How many receivers do you see lower the shoulder after catching a slant? Not many.
