I take issue w/ that.......Huggins can't live these kids lives for them, that is true. However, to say that he can't be held accountable for kids HE RECRUITS is simply ridiculous. If a Xavier play goes out and gets caught breaking the law and is convicted of it Sean Miller is going to be the first guy to answer for it. To say that Huggins is just there to coach and not to help these 18 year old kids grow as humans is irresponsible.
How would Zimpher be saving face by KEEPING Huggins?  I think she lost enough respect around that institution of
"higher" learning when she didn't can him over his drunk driving antics.

Please don't come back w/ the argument of "look how much money the basketball program pours into the school." And UC should be thanking Huggs for getting them into the Big East and more revenue."  That's terrible and I would be very surprised if the rest of the faculty didn't have a huge backlash if their is any truth to these new rumors.

I've had the unique experience of attending both UC and Xavier (UC for 1.5 and XU for 2.5 yrs).  However, I'm a Muskie through and through but it is rather obvious who runs things in Clifton.  Zimpher has a choice, either rid the school of Huggs when his contract is up or shutup.  If she extends Huggins current deal then she is also saying his previous actions will be accepted by the university and even rewarded through a contract extension.

I think UC fans feel if Huggs leaves then so does the program.  If UCs program is half as good as people in Cincinnati think it is then it can weather this storm.  The school deserves a team that shows up more in the box score than the police blotter.

Yes the program can weather the storm but we as UC fans do not want to have to weather a storm. Donations will decline, recruiting will decline (they come BECAUSE of Huggins, not the school or atmosphere or whatever) which in turn translates into a decline in play, decline in attendance......additional decline in donations from athl. boosters. The people who donate for academics will continue to do so but good chunks of donations will be lost. What about the former UC players who donate like Van Exel, Kenyon, and you can add Max to the list now.

These people become men under this man (whose social behavior I cannot support, but as a coach of young men, he is terrific and do support him in that arena) UC is not an attractive place to come for potential recruits besides the fact that we will now be in the B-EAST and we currently have a coach that kids LOVE!

As for the police blotter vs box score, it is the prerogative of a paper to print whatever they want. Obviously the enquirer has a disdain for Huggins. They even wrote an editorial criticizing Huggins at the request of Zimpher so do you think they are going to put in large print all the good things about UC? Did you see the picture in the enquirer of Huggins toasting a glass to Max? Why use this picture? HE DID NOT HAVE A DRINK ALL NIGHT, HE DRANK SODA/WATER BUT THE SECOND HE PICKS UP AN ALCOHOLIC BEVERAGE, SNAP!!! enquirer is a bunch of

Maybe Huggins can come to basketball country and be an assistant for Tubby Smith...I don't know, waterboy, towel-boy, the guy who runs up to the convienience store to get the beers....
:P :P :P

UC will be just fine with or without Huggins. It isn't like he can't be replaced...happens all the time. Their entry into the Big East will open some recruiting doors for them that were closed before. I, as a UK fan, WANT to like UC too, but...there's just something about the way the team is run that irks me in some way.

I agree that UC will be fine in the longrun, but I dont want to go through the first years in the Big East competing for a slot ahead of St. Johns or Seton Hall. I truly beleive that UC will do well this year in the Big East but they are pretty much a team of seniors and freshmen who potentially will have to go through a coaching change after their first year. That is not conducive to continued success and a new coach will require 3 years to "establish" himself. UC has a streak of tourney appearances which will not continue if this happens.

You know, during the season I found myself saying many times that Huggins needs to go because of his COACHING, not because of the BS negative image portrayed by the media. Those were emotional moments though and when thinking rationally, I realize how important he actually is. Why replace a top 10 coach? Who are you gonna get that 's better with more experience? This man's winning pct. is ridiculous and his and the team's accomplishments are amazing as far as league titles, conf. tourney titles. and NCAA tourney appearances as concerned. Even though 2nd round has been trouble for UC, at least they have been in 14 years in a row. With B-East competition night in and night out along with the usual 3 or 4 tough out of league foes, they will be ready for the 2nd round in the years to come IF Huggins is here.
