Both parties focus their attacks on the most fringe aspects of their opponent's ideology, because it is low hanging fruit, makes for damning sound bites, and it plays to the herd mentality of the Blue State/Red State methodology. Show me a person that is a completely dyed-in-the-wool true believer of every Republican or Democratic platform, and I will show you a person who is not a person I want to vote.
