My First Way Too Early Mock Draft

It's fairly deep, but with the injury to Lattimore there really isn't a first round back, let alone an "elite" one.
that's ok, the Bengals really don't need to spend a first round pick on a RB. In fact, with their lack of being splashy in free agency, I think it would be unwise to.

IMO there's at least 7-8 potentially draftable RB's which would be upgrades for the Bengals.

Agree that there are backs that could help us. I like the kid from OkSt (as an "every down" back), but it's not a "great" draft class.
well I guess I mean great, as in upgrades from what the Bengals currently have.

I see about 10 guys who would upgrade the Bengals current RB situation.

My crack at 2013 draft...

2b - RB Joseph Randle, Oklahoma State

4 - OT/G Alvin Bailey, Arkansas

6a-WR Conner Vernon, Duke

Not to bad but I am not sure Randle will last that long. Now that Lattimore is out, there is not a RB that is a sure first rounder. I can see some team moving back or moving up to late in the first round and take Randle.

Wouldn't mind Barner in 2. Somethings tells me, like the other undersized rb from Oregon LeMichael James last year, some team will snag him earlier than he's projected to go. So it may as well be us.

yea James was a mid-second, and IMO Barner is better than him. I don't necessarily think James went too early though. I am surprised he went to san fran though where he's currently like 3rd or 4th on the depth chart. They didn't need him.

I guess I will take a shot at an early mock.

1. DE Damontre Moore Texas A&M
Pass rush has been very poor the last several weeks and needs to be improved. Moore is still a little raw at DE but this is his first year playing DE. Needs to add a few pounds but is excellent at getting pressure.

2. WR Cordarrelle Patterson Tennessee
If Jones is able to play and produce then this is not a big need this early. A number 2 WR is a big need to help Dalton out. Binns and Tate are not getting the job done. Patterson can be a solid number 2.

2b. S Kenny Vaccaro Texas
May not last this long but safety is a need. If he is gone by then Tony Jeffeson would also be a solid pick.

3. MLB Shane Skov Stanford
MLB needs to be upgraded. I like the way Burfict is playing on the outside and would be fine with leaving him there. Skov is a solid player that could play right away.

4. G Alvin Bailey Arkansas
Depth at G is needed. Can play left or right guard. Excellent run blocker

5. RB Spencer Ware LSU
Probably should have went with a RB earlier but Ware is still a solid pick and should be an upgrade.

Big Moore fan. Ware would be a steal there. He's a junior though so he may not come out.
I figured Ware would come out because the young guys Hill and Hillard have been getting a bunch of caries and Blue will probably be next year for them. He might get lost in the depth chart if he returns. Ware will probably go before the 5th but I am hoping Hill continues to get more carries and causes Ware to drop a little.

I havent spent much time looking at these college guys yet, but the positions of our first 4 picks is definitely ideal. I think we need to go in some order RB, LB, S and then either another LB or CB.

1. Tavon Austin, WR/RB/KR/PR - not sold on using the first rounder on him, but also not sold he'll be there at the Oakland pick. They don't need a WR this high, but he offers so much more than just being a WR. He impacts passing game, running game, and both kick return games. Probably could be a gunner too. His overall value makes him worth a late first/early 2nd pick even though WR isn't a need that high.

2. Arthur Brown, LB - still think he's a first round talent, but may slide as juniors declare.

2. Kenny Tate, LB - this was actually the last, and hardest pick I made. Tate has actually played both LB and safety at Maryland so he can cover, and its time the Bengals start upgrading the likes of Vrey, Moch and the general lack of LB depth. Don't love the way Tate tackles, but it can be cleaned up. He's fast, can cover, and can rush.

3. Micah Hyde, CB/S - CB in college, I've seen him listed as a future S as well. Either way, more talent for the secondary.

4. Mallicaih Goodman, DE - wouldn't surprise me if both Geathers and MJ are kept, but if not, he'd be great in the rotation.

5 Xavier Nixon, OT - may go higher than this, but not sure. Can also be trained to backup guard along with wharton and robinson.

6. Mike James, RB - nice size/speed combo. A bigger, faster peerman, though would challenge Leonard's spot.

now that the regular season has ended and after watching what a difference it made getting Crocker back this year, I'm really backing off on the thought of needing to draft a Safety early....whether it's Crocker next year or someone else in that same mold, I just think it's extremely important to keep a savvy vet in that spot. I have no problem whatsoever with Nelson in that other spot for a few more years, he's really just now in his prime. They could always use more depth but I'm good with getting those guys in the mid-rounds

So with that being said I'm taking safety off my board until at least the 4th rd...

1. Barrett Jones G/C Alabama- the most versatile interior o-lineman in the draft....plug'n play guy at either G or C

2. Arthur Brown OLB K-State- my favorite OLB in the draft and I think the fact that he doesn't have prototypical size ultimately keeps him out of rd 1....instant starter and perfect pick for this team.

2a. Logan Ryan CB Rutgers- they could still stand to get younger at corner and this kid would just be too good to pass up if he's still on the board....complete corner that reminds me a lot of Leon Hall...probably a little wishful thinking with this one....either way I think this is a perfect spot to grab another solid young corner whether it's Ryan or someone else.

3. Stepfan Taylor RB Stanford- my favorite RB in the draft, hopefully he's still around...instant upgrade over any back on this team.

4. Jonathan Bostic LB Florida- good athlete coming out of a good system...can play inside or out

5. Zeke Motta SS Notre Dame- has the size they seem to like at 6-2 215

6. Marcus Lattimore RB S Carolina- if he's still here why not? might have to red-shirt a year on IR but who cares?

7. Reid Fragel OT Ohio State- he's a project but he could really turn into something down the road.

I still think we need a safety in the first 3 rounds, but seeing how Crocker has improved this defense, I want a younger version of him. Smart, reliable, in the right place, and a sure tackler rather than a guy who will try to blow you up.

I do not see the need for a first round lineman in this draft.

Our last pick is a second pick in 6, not a 7, but that's just being picky. :) However, I would not be at all surprised to see Fragel work his way up the draft board. He was a TE, so he is athletic and nimble for his size. I think he will have a really good combine and move up the board. I wouldn't be at all surprised if he goes 4th round or earlier.

I also think Lattimore comes off a good deal earlier than that.

I do not see the need for a first round lineman in this draft.

Barrett Jones would be a HUGE upgrade at C....it would complete the o'line and would take them to a completely different level.

those last 3-4 picks are just names I threw out there....they'll change continuously throughout.

If you get a chance watch Chris Jones from BG. Exceptionally strong. Exceptionally productive when he was getting double teamed constantly. Fits more in the mold of Geno as an undersized aggressive guy. When I start doing these he will undeniably be in my late round projection.

DT is a not a need position but I would take him in the 6th and store him on the PS. The reality is we have such great depth....EVERYWHERE...that those later picks just won't matter much. That's where you take the high potential guys IMO and throw them on the practice squad.

Maybe. But I know they like Cook and Robinson, so I don't see them using a first round pick on him. I also am not willing to give up on Cook after a few bad games in an injury shortened season.

I am all for getting more and more good olineman, I just don't think we will see him as the biggest fit when we are up.
