First year head coach, whose success as a DC may or may not have been because of Belicheck.
His success is not all not all Belicheck
Asssigned defensive line postion (a postion he coached for 11 seasons)

- New York (1981-92), the Giants qualified for the playoffs six times, won three division titles and two Super Bowl championships. In his first season in New York, the Giants qualified for the playoffs for the first time since 1963 with a 9-7 record. It was their first winning record in nine seasons.

- His first tenure in New England was a four-year assignment as Bill Parcells’ defensive line coach beginning in 1993 and ending with an AFC Championship and Super Bowl XXXI appearance in January of 1997.

-Cleveland (2000)As a DC here at that time team finished the season with 42 sacks, a 17-sack improvement from the 1999 season.

-New England Patriots defensive coordinator on Bill Belichick’s staff on Feb. 1, 2001. Crennel re-joins the Patriots after a season as the defensive coordinator

- A 33 year old savior QB who has a career rating of 70.6, and hasn't played an entire season since 1998. Won a Super Bowl in 2000 with Ravens (only started 8 games that year), riding the coat tails of the best defense in NFL history, and #2 ranked running attack. 95 career TD's, 105 career INT's.

WRONG!These words come out of your mouth.Nobody said Dilfer was are savior.Crennel replaced a crybaby qb with a level headed smart team player.Johnson was brought in as back up on a 1 year deal. Plus I just plain like Trent Dilfer, and I think he got the shaft after winning Baltimore a SB. He is a solid leader and team guy. He manages the game and the clock well. He is a very tough guy with good size and good arm who will take a beating... He will do well in a run oriented O where he can spread it around, screen it and throw down field... We have 4 viable WR threats and two serviceable TE

Three runningbacks all fighting for one spot, none really qualified for it. Lee Suggs is the favorite to be the starter, so why the hell did this genius GM of yours trade for Droughns??? An obvious product of the Denver line! Suggs fumbles the ball more than Paris Hilton gives head, and was stopped COLD by Cincy's horrible run D (13 carries 19 yards) Green is by far the most talented, and troubled. Showed flashes of skill in 2002, has been practically non-existent since then. So who starts?, whose 2nd string? whose 3rd? Come the start of the season there's going to be some pissed off running backs in the mistake by the lake.

Well thanks to some of blotch davis’s moves are running backs didn’t have a offensive line.To make it worse we had no depth. Are O-line isn't the greatest, but it is much improved, and will get better. This running back corps could arguably be the deepest in the league, and yet the top three backs are all under 29 years old, showing a good combination of youth and experience. What’s wrong with depth

-Suggs had 3 (100 yard games )last year, and no offensive line. I believe he was on ir earlier in the season.
-Green is a power back and will (and should) be used in crucial situations
-Droughns is a shifty back that hits his top gear quickly and uses speed over the quick move to get into the open field. yards, Droughns also has the benefit of being a versatile player who can be put in at fullback in a pinch, adding depth at both the running back and full back positions
- Suggs and Droughns are the men, Green needs to catch up. If Suggs can stay healthy, I think he breaks 1,000 yards this season. If Droughns starts I dont see him being nearly as productive as in Denver but I think he'll break 700-800 yrads rushing depending on Suggs health. Green could step it up and he is my wild card, I could see him being 3rd string and only getting about 250 for the year, or I could see him breaking out and racking up over 1,000 yards.

- Relying on a rookie WR to lead the offense to glory, with Dilfer at the helm Your GM can't decide if he wants to be a power running team, or a pass happy team. Rookie recievers take time to develop, especially on a team that is built for a power running attack.

What did Garcia do last year when we had no offensive line at all.Run out of the pocket and throw to are te’s all day.By the way,are back up te’s will get the job done.

I think our Offense is underrated right now. No,I haven't seen them play a down yet this year, but I have to think we have a much improved offensive Line, good rb's,a very deep and talented wr core with depth.SO NO,Were not only going to rely on are rookie!,but Edwards is going to be a top-notch player in the NFL. His skills and game are much like Keyshawn Johnson. He has all the tools to be a perennial Pro Bowler.

- 3 new starters on the offensive line, Faine was used as trade bait in his 2nd year, and new "star" aquisition Shelton was cut in Arizona because he was lazy and couldn't keep his fat ass in shape. Ross Verba was by far the best player on the line, and he PAID money to leave Cleveland.

Some of my last post on the other thread is in this post.

One advantage is the element of surprise. Nobody's gonna have the jump on game-planning RC until he shows his packages. We often have close games within our division even if we are technically outmatched. We will have problems too but since we have less talent in some positions we have less to lose. In places where we do have talent we have depth. In the positions currently filled with idots which won't start in the NFL again after us, we have another guy standing right behind him whos just as mediocure. Nose Tackle is a great example. Some might say qb is another.

- New defensive scheme, 5 potential new starters, WORST d-line in the NFL. The D-line was horrible last year, so they cut all of the starters, and replaced them with the back-ups that couldn't beat out the horrible starters, I applaude you Phil Savage. The 3-4 relies heavily on the play of the linebackers, the Browns have very average linebackers. Andra Davis is by far the most talented, Thompson is decent, the rest are back-up players for other teams. Another Savage gem, let's move the 290 pound DE Lang (the best DE on the roster) to outside linebacker, he can cover tight ends like a blanket Brian Russell had 1 fluke year in Minnesota, is average at best. Baxter is decent, a physical corner that will have a ton of pass interference calls on him.

RC is building from the ground up.And if you new anything about football you could see a lot of his reasoning. So listen up!!! Stupid is no way to go through life,so until you can rebuild a team, you have no idea what your talking about.Madden doesn’t count.

It's football, X's and O's. Disguising blitzes is what makes it work. Good atheletes at LB will always thrive in this kind of defense. I think we have a few decent atheletes at LB, maybe no stars, but decent atheletes. IMO this defensive scheme makes stars out of good atheletes. I guess my whole thing is that people seem to think the guys on this team are mentally not up to the challenge, or maybe not as much as most teams in the league. I still believe good coaches make things seem easy for the players to learn The only question left is if he does teach them well, can he motivate them to perform when it counts. Fortunately, RAC and Savage have found a few guys experienced in the 3-4 to help lead the charge. Honestly, I expect that for the first couple of games we will see guys playing out of place, missing opportunities etc... But by the 3rd or 4th game, I expect to see them making those plays instead.

It will take a little time. How quickly they adjust depends on so many factors that I won't even go there.I think that this new system will make stars out of...Andra Davis, Chuan Thompson, Kenard Lang...I also believe that the 'learning curve' will not be as steep as we are making it out to be....Romeo Crennel is a great coach and so is the rest of our defensive staff....are starters will be prepared by the time the season starts

If you want to compare, what the hell did you guys do before lewis except lose

So you acknowledge that the Lewis era is a good one. Sweet..........
You made my argument for me.
You have to be completely insane and lack any ability at objectivity to not realize the positive changes the Bengals have made. What have the Browns done? Hire a new (and qualified) coach? Sweet.
See ya in two years when you have a team.....

Because this is the NFL. The year before the Pats began their title run, they went 5-11. Tampa went 9-7 the year preceding their championship. St Louis, 4-12. Baltimore, 8-8. I believe Bengals fans are simply talking just like fans of any 8-8 team do in a parity-driven league. The difference is, we deserve it more. We aren't at the top...yet. The season hasn't started!
I think that under Marvin Lewis that Bengals fans can actually hope and know that Marvin won't tolerate any less than everyone's best efforts.
And in case you hadn't noticed, we have amassed some serious talent, particularly on the offensive side of the ball.
I won't cry Superbowl just yet, but a 10-6 finish and a playoff berth is completely within the realm of reason, all homerisms aside.
Hey, I don't hate the Browns so much that I wouldn't give credit where it is due. If your team was really good, I'd acknowledge it and say so.
But your team fucking sucks dude! YOU ARE THE NEW DOORMAT OF THE AFC NORTH!
You'd better get used to it.

A thread addressed directly to me :) I feel special.............

Relying on the element of surprise to win games (I don't know if this is the first year you have followed football or not, but every team has the element of surprise coming into the season)

About Crennel being a head coach, being a good defensive coordinator does not always translate into being a good coach, ever heard of Dick LeBeau?? One of the best D coordinators in the league, and he got his assed trounced in Cincy.

We in Cincinatti know bad management when we see it (see: Lindner, Carl and Brown, Mike of the 90's) Savage does not have a clear cut goal of where he wants this team, you don't have to be a freakin genius to see that!!! When he came in, the team was pretty balanced as far as running and passing. Once Garcia left, and Dilfer ( ), and Droughns was brought in, Savage obviously wanted to rely heavily on the run. Dilfer does not "manage the clock well" (it's called handing off the ball because the coach told him to), he does not "have a good arm", if you look at his numbers from EVERY season he has played, they are mediocre at very best. Dilfer is not a smart player, he makes dumbass throws consistently, just look at the number of interceptions he has thrown. You still haven't answered me, why the hell did Savage bring Droughns in?! You don't need another starting fullback, Smith is pretty decent, and Suggs and Green are not horrible enough to pay another runningback to start! Any moron knows that a fat DE does not make a good OLB, or bringing in Brian Russell (and letting Robert Griffith, the leading tackler go), who BLEW last year in Minnesota, when you already have 2 or 3 young safeties who can play immediately.

Seriously, all homerism aside, how many games do you think this team will win in 2005?

I'm sure you'll find more excuses later, so I'll be back to make fun of them

i hate everyone in our division, but i have respect for the steelers, and i have respect for the ravens... but i have ABSOLUTELY ZERO respect for the clowns... they are the worst run organization in the NFL, and have been for ever... hence the superbowl question that  go keeps asking

i will answer it for you though... it was in 2000, when the browns moved out of cleveland!!

the browns will win maybe 2 games this year... and that isn't my homerism talking, i think that the AFC north is the hardest division this year, w/ the exception of the browns

These Browns have done nothing. The only Browns to ever accomplish anything in football hated their city and it's fans so much, they snuck out the back door and moved to Baltimore. Any true rivalry between the Bengals and Browns moved with Model. This Cleveland team is just another expansion trying to build a history.

It really is gratifying

I love how when someone burns his team, he has nothing to come back proving that they don't blow, so he resorts to making fun of screen names and typing skills........ I love proving to Browns fans that their beloved team is completely horrible, and despite popular belief, not being run well.

You can get off your high horse about the Bengals win with NE.That game was a fluke. Scintillating. Marvin Lewis is building the next dynasty to follow the Patsies. The road to the SB has always run through Cincy.

We hear the Bengals talk about how they are on the verge of being a successful team every year. We heard it with Blake and Pickens and kiJana, no results, we heard all about how PeeWee Warick and Akili Smith and one of them couldnt even cut it in the NFL this year. We are hearing all about how great Palmer and both Johnsons will be and I expect the same results as usual.

All I have heard for this new season from you guys is the buttholes are gonna kill the Browns, they are the team to watch this year. Well guess what? We all heard the same thing last year, we smoked you one game, played you pretty well the second and you ended up with same record as the year before, until you actually prove they can win more than 8 games.

What sorry ass franchise will sue there fans to get them to buy tickets –THE BUTTHOLES

What sorry ass franchise can’t even build a new stadium right-THE BUTTHOLES

One of your super duper fans said in this thread,”we have respect for the stoolers and ratbirds” NEWS FLASH…They both own your sorry ass team on the field year after year,so I guess they don’t need you 14 YEARS OF LOSING to gain respect.MOST all you chumps are fair weather fans anyway.

THE ONLY THING THAT SUCKS MORE THE YOUR FOOTBALL AND BASEBALL TEAM ARE YOU GUYS.YOU GUYS TALK SO MUCH SHIT,BUT YOUR RECORD SPEAKS FOR ITSELF!!!!

SORRY THE LAST 2 YEARS AVERAGE LOSERS,ONE OF WHICH WE KICKED YOUR SORRY ASSES OUT OF THE PLAYOFFS.SOON YOU WILL GO BACK TO BEING TOTAL LOSERS.
