"You think with a guy throwing 90 mph -- and that is what he topped out at only twice tonight -- anybody can hit that. But he's throwing Frisbees; and at different arm angles. You want to slow your feet down, and then it is by you at 86 [mph]. Then you rush a little bit and he throws it 78 [mph] and you are leaning . . . It is so difficult, and you can watch as much video on him as you can but it doesn't matter."

He threw 91 pitches, only six of them from the stretch. So batter after batter stood and measured Arroyo when he leaned back, shot his left leg straight to third base, uncoiled and then spooned with plate umpire Brian O'Nora's strike zone. "I think that was one of the best games he's ever thrown," catcher Ryan Hanigan said.

Observations
*One night after perhaps the finest hour for Brandon Phillips and Dusty Baker we can offer the same label for Bronson Arroyo.
*Love watching Bronso's combo of frisbees and wiffle balls.
*Big boost for bullpen.
*Bronson topped his longest postseason outing of career at 6 innings: ALDS Game 3 October 8, 2004 vs Angels at Fenway. 6 IN, 2 R, ND.
*Bronson got a fly ball out in 1st inning that's a HR at GABP.
*Finest postseason pitching performance in franchise history.
*When Arroyo is inducted into #Reds Hall of Fame that performance will be shown on GABP scoreboard and the crowd will stand and cheer.
*All 8 regulars got at least one hit, 7 different players scored a run.
*I've always loved the 2-3 format.
*Reds first postseason shutout since Game 1 of 1990 World Series (7-0).
*Scouting: How many balls have Giants hit right at a perfectly positioned Reds player?
*Ludwick protecting Votto: HR....had been 1 for 16 vs Bumgarner in career.
*Few things more enjoyable than watching Votto adjust, make due, work count, and spray the ball around.
*Votto has delivered ground ball single to LF , CF and RF. find me another game in career with 3 ground ball hits. Amazing.
*How much is Votto still protecting knee? He slide head first into home. Yikes.
*MLB best regular season home ERA ‘12 (minimum 100 innings) #2 Matt Cain 2.03, #5 Madison Bumgarner 2.38.
*Reds have not lost 3 straight at home since dropping 4 straight Sept 16-19, 2011. (3 vs Mil, 1 Hou).
*Reds 72-25 when they homer this year. 91-28 when they score at least 3 runs.
*What if Brandon Phillips had not agreed on new deal in April & hit market as free agent after being on this stage? Another team tops 6yr $72.5 ?
*Reds with 6 HR at AT&T in 6 games this year. Giants allowed just 53 in 81 games….and hit just 31.
*Shutting down the top: Angel Pagan and Marco Scutaro 1 for 17 combined.
*So much for the struggling offfense that had averaged just 2.86 runs in 29 Sept/Oct games.
*Hanigan with 3 RBI. he had 24 RBI in regular season.
*RISP: 5 for 11

Last time Giants swept Reds in Cincinnati?
From listener Eric
The last time Giants swept a 3-game series in Cincy was April 5-7, 1999 (the season-opening series). Dusty Baker was the Giants manager.
April 5:
Brett Tomko pitched opening day, Reds rally but bullpen gags it late
April 6:
Danny Graves/Gabe White blew game two
April 7
Steve Averypitches great for 7 2/3 but then implodes, aided by more shoddy bullpen work.

Dusty says they don't know who would start Game 4 at this point but indications are it WOULD NOT be Cueto.

Cueto has a mild oblique strain. Not good news. [s]#[/s]reds[/background]

That sucks about Cueto, we're going to need him back in the NLCS..... and these afternoon games are annoying from the perspective of getting off work. Let's hope they finish it off tonight

Mild oblique strain is worse then back spasms I'd think. Pretty sure he won't pitch this series and maybe next.
From what I'm reading, an oblique strain should keep him out the rest of the year. The keyword is "mild" and figuring out exactly what the hell that means as far as turnaround time.

Latos is here. Just saw him in the dugout. If it was very severe, they would have send him home. [s]#[/s]reds[/background]
