True, and I am an advocate of rectifying that. But again, it isn't the fault of guns or sane gun owners that a extreme minority of crazy people get to set the gun agenda or affect people on such an emotional level that they cannot see the forest for the trees.

It's not a matter of fault. What about Norway?

Im not laying blame at the feet of responsible gun owners, I'm laying blame at the feet of the 1% and folks who defend them because of OMG SOCIALISM!!! Now many of them are the same, but that's coincidence.

I'm not sure what you mean. Norway was yet another example of an absolutely insane person that had no business being around firearms going on a rampage. I do fault the people responsible for these atrocities, despite their insanity. In fact, that particular guy is languishing in one of Norway's "hotel prisons" (and he only got 20 years, IIRC...and he killed like 100 people...many of them children!).

Who is defending the 1%? It's clear to me that there needs to be more stringent protocols in place to weed out the mentally insane from obtaining firearms, coupled with a better healthcare system that can identify and treat these people before they act out their insane rage fantasies upon innocents.

I never said hunt deer with it. It's a perfect coyote elimination weapon, however. I know several people that are hired by farmers in rural areas that use this weapon to great effect to kill coyotes, which are a nuisance animal (to say the least) for farmers that raise livestock, chickens, etc
I have used a bolt-action .22 for just that purpose, also with "great effect".

I couldn't care less if you have a handgun in your house for protection or shotgun or rifle for hunting. That's fine. The creepy people are the conceal carry people, the automatic rifle people, the 5 handgun people. The people who have pictures of their guns on facebook (their cars too).

Used to hunt, but don't anymore. What I had went to family members when we had our little girl. I'm expecting that I'll inherit a couple of rifles that were my grandfathers.

Assuming you're still in Montana, I heard something about the state passing a new hunting law that does away with licensing or tags.. Quick google search is turning up nothing. Any insight?

I don't have any insight on it (I haven't heard that at all) and I'd be very surprised if they did that.

I actually never hunted in Montana, it was when I lived in Wyoming...but I am still in Montana.

Why does that make them creepy? There are gun enthusiasts just like there are car enthusiasts, toy enthusiasts, boat enthusiasts, whatever. You're taking your preconceived bias about guns and using them to color an entire group of people that you know literally nothing about.

People like you love to get up in arms when scary words start getting thrown around - ASSAULT! CALIBER! HIGH CAPACITY! An AR-15 is an assault rifle like a Mustang is an F1 car. Ironically, if Adam Lanza had had a REAL (fully automatic) assault rifle, he probably would have killed fewer people.

They don't need to post the pictures on Facebook. Why do they do that?

They enjoy their hobby? They have friends that are into guns too? They want to show off something cool they have? Why does anyone put ANYTHING on Facebook? Pretty much just to show off.

And why do we show off? Why do we feel the need to show off?

Dunno.. Maybe you should ask yourself that before you go any further with this armchair psychoanalysis of strangers on the internet.

I thought you asked me to cite why I thought this. You can't both ask for my opinion and then call me a dick for providing it. As far a I am concerned this is a discussion board and we are having a discussion. None of these ideas are concrete or absolutes.
Don't mean to sound judgmental. We all have stuff that we are working on. The reality is the the more inwardly you live and the more self accepting you are the healthier you are. Living outwardly and bragging etc. may provide short term comfort but that tends to be just that...short term. I am probably more guilty than anyone here in posting stuff on facebook, its something I am working on so I tend to know more about it than the average person.

I think it's creepy to post pictures of cars and guns on facebook because those people tend to be the ones living exceptionally externally. You know who are the creepiest guys. Guys like Lebron James who talk about their brand. Chad Johnson. Chad Johnson lives so externally that I am not sure he has any idea of who he really is. He just caters to what he thinks other people want him to be. Atleast thats the feeling I get.

And by the way there are no absolutes in alot of this stuff. Thats why I post it on a discussion board. If I wanted to not have my opinions on guns and things challenged I would go to an anti-gun website and talk about guns.

Yes, I have a couple pictures of my Mustang on Facebook. I also have pictures of my sons on there. You are really making a HUGE leap trying to associate "creepiness" and "people that tend to live exceptionally externally" because they put a picture of something they own on Facebook. By your logic, a picture of my dog, my house, a can of beer....all would make me "creepy". This whole line of thinking is what's creepy. I am not subsumed with materialism just because I have a nice car and took a picture of it.

Taken from the "gun threads".
If ever there was a time to give up your paranoid reasons to own a gun this is it.

You dont need a gun. You flat out don't need one.

Little kids died because we decided to be a country of cowboys that are so insecure and paranoid that we need guns to protect us more than actual safety

This makes me think I need to go get an assault rifle to protect myself from these wierdos. There is not a legitimate reason to have an assault rifle.

There are tons of reasons connected to paranoia and low self esteem.

The idiocy is much more pervasive than I had thought it was.

We are a country of people with short man syndrome.

Paranoia leads to gun ownership. It also leads to people trying to find ways to show their manhood.

The creepy people are the conceal carry people, the automatic rifle people, the 5 handgun people. The people who have pictures of their guns on facebook (their cars too).
I am not judging people for what I see as their problems. That may seem contradictory but it's not. We all have warts. I don't expect people to be perfect. It's just something to work on. I wouldn't judge you if you had a physical ailment or a mental one. I would lighten my language if I didn't think it was so absurd that people thought they needed to own assault rifles....for fun. Or carry weapons on college campuses or into bars. People wanting guns caused this problem and now that its out of control they want more guns to fix it.

People owning guns did not CAUSE this problem, and the reasons for people owning guns are legion and far exceed your assertion that they are just "for fun". You don't even know what you're talking about. How dare you presume to speak for others from your ivory tower of all that is holy and good?
