We should have promoted him to hc, he leaves this team falls back 10 years

I really don't think so, I think they'd promote Gunther, As they've said he's very detailed oriented, he's been a headcoach (regardless of division) And he's done wonders with Burfict. If he can get Burfict to buy into the system, I believe he could do well as the DC.

I still don't think he'll be a great HC long-term. I could see how he could light a fire at first in Cleveland or SD and be the tough hand. But long-term, HC is more of a management and communications role. He's better suited as a hands-on DC.

Here is why [s]#[/s]Bengals DC Mike Zimmer is my favorite in the clubhouse for [s]#[/s]Browns head coach. I think Zimmer's a damn good coach but overrated by many on this board. His defenses are too inconsistent for my liking in labeling "dominant defenses". Many times during the year, when it mattered, the D couldn't get off the field. I value Zimmer and would love to have him stick around, I'm not so quick to think it a tragedy if he does go. And if he goes to Cleveland, he'll be a DC again in 3 or 4 yrs IMO. I think Zimmer may just be a little too volatile for a HC position also.

Honestly....Before this whole thing started I would have said as long as we keep Gruden I am ok. Now with all the names being bandied about I would much rather keep Zimmer and lose Gruden. I feel like Gruden seems more replaceable.

I feel the exact opposite just because Gruden, Dalton and Green were pretty much all "born" at the same time in the NFL. If Gruden leaves, Dalton will be set back significantly as will the offense in general. Having said that....I was VERY unimpressed with Gruden over the last month or so. Like he got Offensive Coordinator's block or something.

I think some of the inconsistency in Zimmer's defense comes from the amount of reclamations and lack of top talent. Zimmer is great at reviving guys, but those guys are still bound to slip up.

No first round picks on the dline. average LB corp, and guys on the back end of their careers in the secondary, and he had them as probably one of the five best defenses by the end of the year.

Their weaknesses finally caught up to them in the playoff game.

x2. Gruden struggled this year, but it would be a major blow to a very young offense to have to change any gears, big or small, this offseason.

TBH I dont agree with folks thinking he'll be back, I worry losing him would be like losing Walsh.
Whoa whoa whoa....slow down there fella.

Also, Cleveland has to want to hire him.....don't know if that's the direction they will be going with their team. I think it got around in league circles that Zimmer was baffled, pissed he didn't get an interview so now the requests have come in. I think he's too volatile to be a HC. He'd be the Ozzie Guillen of NFL coaches.

I dont know the guy has gotten results with cast off players. I have very little doubt he's going to be a very successful head coach some day, I'd love for it to be here, my stomach would turn if it was in Cleveland.

Overrated. Our defensive line has studs on it. That's why the defense was so good. Don't care if he leaves. We still can't cover a tight end.
which player on defense is good enough to cover the tight end? Can't blame zimmer if he doesn't have a player that can do it well.

And I'm sure zimmer had nothing to do with the dline being awesome.

Busy Brownie Wednesday:

Chudzinski is another name I had forgotten about. He was their OC in 2007 when they went 10-6. He is that offensive-minded coach, a lifelong Brownie through and through, and has Carolina's offensive resurgence in the past two seasons as a temptation for Haslam.

Hardly any defenses in the history of life come through all the time. His D's are good more often than they are sucky.

Every team's D let them down at one point. Bengals D was awesome.
