Not sure on two DBs to start it off, particularly when Reid can play some nickel corner, and IMO Trufant may even be able to play safety. Like both guys though, just think they may wait a pick or two before grabbing a second DB.

Definitely wouldn't be a bad twosome, I just don't think they'll do it.

Two DBs to start may not happen, but here's my reasoning:

Trufant is a BPA pick.  I don't think there will be a guy worth taking at 21 that meets an obvious need, so I think they take a quality player of value at a premium position.

Reid is a combination of value and need.  I think he has the size to be a "SS" in Marvin's "interchangeable" system, and will definitely be worth taking at 37.

Oh it's definitely not a bad combo and at prime positions. Trufant may be a slight reach IMO though.

I seriously doubt if Trufant makes it anywhere near 21, I really can't see him getting past both Miami and Tampa at 12 and 13....I think he's gonna turn out to be this years version of Stephon Gilmore...honestly, I wouldn't be surprised to see as many as 5 corners end up in the 1st round with 3 of them going in the top 15.

6. Desmond Trufant, CB, Washington: A great week of practice in Mobile had people excited about Trufant’s potential and the started things off well by running very fast in his 40’s. However, the good news ended when he went through the positional workout. Trufant was herky/jerky moving around and looked stiff trying to change directions and adjust throughout. He will need to work-out better at his pro day to ease concerns that arose during workout about his athleticism. - See more at: http://www.nationalfootballpost.com/NFP-breaks-down-the-DBs-who-struggled-Tuesday-at-Combine.html#sthash.gzeLfh0Q.dpuf

They also said Rhodes struggled also. Take it for what its worth. Said Reid looked good.

4. Eric Reid, SAF, LSU: Even though Reid did not run super-fast in the 40 that does not mean he had a bad work-out (His publically reported 40 times were much faster than those scouts gave me, they had him right around 4.6). NFL people inside the stadium told us that Reid was surprisingly quick, nimble and athletic throughout his workout. He displayed the athleticism necessary to patrol the deep end of coverage and to adjust and change directions with ease. - See more at: http://www.nationalfootballpost.com/NFP-breaks-down-the-DBs-who-shined-Tuesday-at-Combine.html#sthash.ZK5JS6vG.dpuf

1. Johnathan Cyprien, SAF, Florida International: Cyprien really stood out today with an excellent all-around workout. NFL people in attendance told me that he moved around so well in the workout that you would have thought he was a cornerback. Cyprien displayed the fluid movement skills, quickness and speed of a much smaller player. When you combine his work-out with his thick and muscular build, Cyprien definitely has a chance to be a first round pick - See more at: http://www.nationalfootballpost.com/NFP-breaks-down-the-DBs-who-shined-Tuesday-at-Combine.html#sthash.ZK5JS6vG.dpuf

3. Tyrann Mathieu, CB, LSU: While he did not run as well as many expected (Low 4.5’s depending on which scout I spoke with), Mathieu’s workout was strong. His balance, agility and quickness showed in his ability to stay in position in drill even when his footwork/technique was not sharp. He also proved that he has rare ball skills as he looks natural going up and catching the ball. Lastly, sources told us that within a day most of the defensive backs were following Mathieu as he has natural charisma and leadership. - See more at: http://www.nationalfootballpost.com/NFP-breaks-down-the-DBs-who-shined-Tuesday-at-Combine.html#sthash.ZK5JS6vG.dpuf

I don't think Trufant makes it past Steelers. He may even end up in top 15. Plus I expect us to at least resign Jones. Jones, Hall, and Dre make a nice trio. Not necessary to bring in another first rounder.

Not sure Reid makes it out of rd 1 after 4.5 40.

I like the Collins pick. Fragel a reach in 4th. Arms too short to be a tackle. I like Armsteads measurables as a developmental OT.

He's probably borderline. As you've been posting recently, Jamar Taylor looked more fluid in the workouts and has the video to back it up.

He had me hooked from the second play I saw.  I've never seen a DB turn his hips so effortlessly.

Just look at how effortless he makes it look on play 2.

he won't be borderline by the time the first rd rolls around IMO....the fact that this draft is weak at the top combined with the fact that corners are at such a premium league wide means you probably get 5-6 of these guys picked in the 1st, with Trufant surely being one of them....he might have been a little bit herky-jerky in some of the drills in Indy but he's got plenty of good tape out there for teams to look at and he also had a great week in Mobile.....I hate to say this because I'd really like to have one of 'em, but I honestly think that there's a very good possibility that Miliner, Trufant, Rhodes and Taylor are all gone by the time Dallas gets on the clock at 18.....Taylor in particular, has Steelers written all over him IMO.

You may be right about the number of CB's that go in the first. Maybe that pushes Patterson or Allen down to us.

I've heard a few rumbles that Patterson was bombing some interview from a football knowledge standpoint.

Yeah, I heard that too.  National Football Post has some really good daily summaries of the positional groups.  It would be just magical if he'd slide all the way to #37.

The most impressive reviews I read though were of Jonathan Cyprien and... Gio Bernard.  Said Bernard should be a sure-fire 1st rounder and will give Lacy a run for being the first rb taken.

souring on him that much already?

No not at all.  I'd still take him at #21.  I'm just greedy.  Every time I think about doing a mock I find myself lusting after the guy who is ranked just a bit above our pick.

In my dream scenario, if Patterson did fall to 37, who would I take?  Ziggggggy.

Yes, I have a problem...

man I need to go back and watch some more of Bernard, he's never really impressed me all that much.....he is a good receiver I'll give him that but as a runner I just don't remember seeing anything special.

after a really strong week in Mobile followed up by a great showing in Indy, I think Cyprien is gonna be a guy on the rise and talked about as a first rd pick as we get closer to april....I watched some film of him a couple of days ago and came away very impressed.....he might not do any one thing great but he does everything very well and he's the only safety I've watched so far that can make that claim IMO.

Actually, let me amend that.  The one thing I did say in my earlier appraisal of Patterson was that the one thing that would make me leery would be intelligence issues.  Jerome Simpson, Jermaine Gresham and Rey have cured me of turning a blind eye to that.

He was actually getting a lot of 1st round love BEFORE the combine, so there must be something there. I need to go watch him and Reid and Sio Moore now.
