We have 4 guys on the list and only 1 in the top 80 (andre at 8).

For comparison's sake, last we had 5 guys on the list and resigned 4 of the 5 (Collins, Lawson, Sims, and Nelson). The one guy we lost (benson) we replaced with another guy on the top 100 list, BJGE.

So pretty much we came out even last year. Hoping to do a little better this year.

Also surprised pacman isnt on this list...

sounds like the Chiefs have settled on Joeckel. That would be the only reason to cut a good tackle.  He was due $4.9 million, which is reasonable for him. Also drives down Andre's price and leverage.

“Chiefs releasing RT Eric Winston, per league source.” Kinda crappy after how he defended them. Another cheap #Bengals replacement for Andre

14. Texans outside linebacker Connor Barwin

I wouldn't mind giving him a shot at SLB

I was thinking the same thing.  I'm not sure what kind of money he would command.  He really dropped off this past year.  I imagine he may be out of price range though.

Out of that list, the guy I really like is Keenan Lewis.  He was really coming on strong last year.  Plus it would really hurt the Steelers.

Meh on Barwin... He tested out as a great athlete but hasn't done much in Houston.

I didn't realize Kenny Phillips was an FA. He's had some injuries, but he's still pretty young and when healthy he was a good safety. NYG lucked out with Stevie Brown last year, so I'm sure they won't re-sign him.

Yep, he's a good player. Brent Grimes I like a lot, too but he's coming off a tough injury. Before that, he was a helluva player for ATL, and he's young.

I do like the Phillips idea.

For what its worth, Eric Winston was the top RT in FA last year and was considered one of the best in the game I believe. He got a 4 year 22 mil deal. Seems to be a big time team player as well.

Id make him my first target if Andre leaves. Hell I might rather have Winston for 5M a year than Andre for 9M a year if he can really get that much. Spend the 4M a year on starting caliber safety or LB.

Hes also a free agent now. Maybe they could start talking to him now and use that as leverage against andre. Doubtful though.

Imagine the madness when a situation like this happens. You have a FA to be OT and a possible replacement, starter, is released. GMs calling coaches, coaches calling assistants, assistants telling their wives that they aren't eating dinner at home tonight because everyone has to get to the stadium and watch 4 years of tape on a guy who *might* come in for a visit in the next few days.

I'd imagine it being a hectic, but exciting time.

This is a really deep FA class at Safety. Seemed like last year all the decent Safeties got franchise tagged before FA opened and Nelson was just about the only good FA on the market.

This year you have Goldson, Landry, Reed, Phillips, Moore, Quin, Delmas.

If we go after any outside FAs, one of those top Safeties would probably make the most sense. One of those 7 and keeping most of our own guys would be an ideal free agency outcome for me.

We would go into the draft with very few big needs. RB and LB would be the biggest. But even those positions we would have BJGE and Peerman at RB and if we keep Howard and a couple of the other FA LBers, we would be solid enough there that we would not have to reach if the value isn't there.

I'm not sure Winston is a good fit here. He is a zone blocking guy. That scheme generally calls for smaller but more athletic guys as they get out and cut block LBs a lot. We run more of a straight ahead power scheme that works best with a really big, powerful RT. Andre is a much better fit here and Winston is a better fit for teams like Houston, Washington, Seattle, Denver, Atlanta, etc. who are zone blocking teams.

correct me if I'm wrong, but aren't the Bengals playing zone blocking now?  I'm almost certain they are in pass pro.

Agreed.   Just a solid starting option that will take one team out of the pool and he'll make less than the bigger RTs prospects

Yeah, I thought they made the switch a while back? If not, our interior line sure is indecisive because I see a lot of that stand-around-shuffling-your-feet stuff for a "straight-ahead power scheme".
