Terence Newman in the fold per his twitter

Recommended Posts

As much as I got frustrated with Newman, the dude went head to head with the other teams best receiver almost weekly.  Inactrick is going to have to step up his game big time if he wants any snaps.  Newman was more than solid last year.  Hoping for a repeat performance.

Lol inactrick

Regardless of the talent or the price, it's good to see a FA pick us over the team that supposedly offered more

I think zimmer has changed the mentality of the team more than Marvin. Every time a vet d player comes here or decides to stay, they credit Zim

From talking to the head of the Bengals scouting, Greg Seamon, Brandon Ghee is a lights-out player....if he can stay healthy. This is probably it for him this year to prove he can. IIRC he's concussion-prone.

I really hope he can make good on his potential but love that we're set even if he doesn't. Perfect example of filling in through free agency when the draft fails you. Got good quality players signed to cap friendly deals that won't keep the team from moving in their own guys if they develop or get healthy. We're in great shape at that premium position.

I really would like to see Ghee get on the field.  They have some potentially good young drafted CBs with Prater Dre and Ghee...

#Bengals DC Mike Zimmer on Newman:

“Terence has always had great talent, and he’s become a smarter player every year of his career,” said Mike Zimmer. “He sees things well and he challenges receivers. He’s tough. He takes care of his body and doesn’t miss reps. He’s the kind of guy we want back as we work to keep our defense together.”

The Bengals have re-signed CB Terence Newman, an 11-year veteran who is now entering his second season with the Bengals.

The Bengals today re-signed CB Terence Newman as an unrestricted free agent. Newman (5-10, 192; Kansas State) is an 11th-year NFL player in 2013, entering his second Bengals season. He played his first nine seasons with Dallas after being drafted in the first round in 2003.

Newman led the Bengals last season in passes defensed (14). He was fifth on the team and second among defensive backs in tackles (75), and his two interceptions raised his career total to 34. He played and started 15 games, and for his 10 completed NFL seasons, he has averaged 14.8 games and 14.6 starts. He also has played and started six postseason games, including last year’s Wild Card playoff for the Bengals.

“Terence has always had great talent, and he’s become a smarter player every year of his career,” said Bengals defensive coordinator Mike Zimmer. “He sees things well and he challenges receivers. He’s tough. He takes care of his body and doesn’t miss reps. He’s the kind of guy we want back as we work to keep our defense together.”

The Bengals finished seventh in the NFL last season in fewest yards allowed and eighth in fewest points allowed, and Newman is the sixth defensive player who had been eligible for free agency to re-sign for ’13. Re-signing previously were DE Robert Geathers, DE Wallace Gilberry, CB Adam Jones, LB Rey Maualuga and DEMichael Johnson. (Johnson was designated as the club’s franchise player and has signed a one-year tender offer, with negotiation of a longer deal still an option.)

Cincinnati has also re-signed six players from offense or special teams who had been eligible for unrestricted free agency. They are LS Clark Harris, P Kevin Huber, K Mike Nugent, TE Richard Quinn, OT Dennis Roland and WR Brandon Tate.

The Bengals have signed one UFA from another club, QB Josh Johnson (last with Cleveland).
