The Official Go-Bengals 2013 NFL Draft Live Thread

Recommended Posts

I'd like to see the Bengals draft Eddie Lacy and a Safety with their two second round picks. If not Lacy ,then another RB. Adding Eifert and a RB would give the offense a boost and Safety appears to be the #1 need on defense.

Floyd, Rhodes, and Patterson? That's kicking ass. Probably 3 top 20 guys if you go by value boards

Not sure - those three are some of the more polarizing prospects out there... Heard some teams loved them, some didn't. Especially Patterson.

Lacy or Cyprien should be the pick. I think with four spots ahead of us (and Smith going in one of them) we should at least get someone helpful.

The Georgia LBs remind me of the USC guys. Great together, not so good separately. I don't think our division has suddenly gained a game-changer, and if it has it's ours.

If Lacy is there then he has to be the pick. I almost thought they would have taken him first if not for Eifert still on the board.

yea I think Lacy will be the pick if he's there, I just hope they have an answer for the safety position.

Of the 4 picks in front of them today, I could see 2 of them being quarterbacks.

I've updated the OP with the Round 1 results and the new order for Rounds 2 & 3 based on Thursday's trades.

The trades were:

1-3: OAK traded 1-3 to MIA for 1-12 and 2-42.  MIA selected Dion Jordan (DE)
1-8: BUF traded 1-8 and 3-71 to STL for 1-16, 2-36, 3-78 and 7-222.  STL selected Tavon Austin (WR)
1-18: DAL traded 1-18 to SFF for for 1-31 and 3-74.  SFF selected Eric Reid (S)
1-22: STL traded 1-22 and 2015 7th round pick to ATL for 1-30, 3-92 and 6-198.  ATL selected Desmond Trufant (CB)
1-29: NEP traded 1-29 to MIN for 2-52, 3-82, 4-102 and 7-229.  MIN selected Cordarrelle Patterson (WR)

The draft pick value chart says:

1-3: OAK got 1-12 (1200) and 2-42 (480).  MIA got 1-3 (2200).  MIA wins 2200 to 1680 (+31%)

1-8: BUF got 1-16 (1000), 2-36 (540), 3-78 (200) and 7-222 (2.6).  STL got 1-8 (1400) and 3-71 (235).  BUF wins 1742.6 to 1635.  (+7%)

1-18: DAL got 1-31 (600) and 3-74 (220).  SFF got 1-18 (900).  SFF wins 900 to 820 (+10%)

1-22: STL got 1-30 (620), 3-92 (132) and 6-198 (12.2).  ATL got 1-22 (780) + 2015 7th round pick (2.0 to 14.2).  ATL wins 782.0-794.2 to 764.2 (+2-4%)

1-29: MIN got 1-29 (640). NEP got 2-52 (380), 3-82 (180), 4-102 (92), 7-229 (1).  NEP wins 653 to 640 (+2%)

OAK got jobbed.  Everybody else's trades were fairly even.

I see a QB run at the start of Round 2:

2-1-33 Jacksonville (will take QB)
2-2-34 San Francisco (need CB/TE)
2-3-35 Philadelphia (will take QB)
2-4-36 Detroit (need OT)
2-5-37 Cincinnati (need RB/CB/OLB)
2-6-38 Arizona (need DT/OLB)
2-7-39 NY Jets (needs a QB)
2-10-42 Oakland (needs a QB)

I think after JAX take their QB (Barkley or Nassib likely), NYJ and OAK will panic because both would like Smith and Philly is certain to take if he's available.  SFF's phone will begin to ring.  If SFF trades down to 2-7 or 2-10, they end up behind division foe Arizona. The Cardinals have different needs than the Niners so SFF would be safe to trade down, unless they're worried that ARI might also trade down to someone who might snatch a CB or TE before SFF's new pick comes up.  So SFF would need a "favorable" trade from NYJ or OAK to dislodge themselves from 2-2.

NYJ picks (6): 2-7-39, 3-10-72, 4-9-106, 5-8-141, 6-10-178, 7-9-215
OAK picks (7): 2-10-42, 3-4-66, 4-3-100, 6-4-172, 6-8-176, 6-37-205, 7-3-209

To convince SFF to move further down, OAK will have to be fairly aggressive.  NYJ would offer their 2nd (2-7-39) and 4th (4-9-106) to move up, which would be a 592-560 deal for SFF (+6%).  OAK would need to be half-again better, so they would likely have to pony-up their 2nd (2-10-42), 4th (4-3-100) and a couple of 6ths (6-4-172 and 6-37-205), to offer a 612-560 deal (+9% SFF).  Either way, SFF is sitting pretty, because at least one of the two players they're likely to pick at 2-2 (TE Zach Ertz or CB Jamar Taylor) will still be there at 2-7 or 2-10.

So my prediction is:

2-1-33: JAX take Barkley (QB USC) or Nassib (QB Syracuse)

2-2-34 and 2-3-35:
If NYJ or OAK move up, they take Geno Smith (QB West Va) and PHI take the QB that JAX didn't
If SFF stays put, they take Ertz or Taylor, and PHI takes Smith

2-4-36: Detroit will take Menelik Watson (OT Florida $tate)
2-5-37: Cincinnati will take Eddie Lacy (RB Alabama)
2-6-38: Arizona will take Tank Carradine (DT/DE Florida $tate)

2-7-39:
If NYJ moved up, SFF takes Ertz or Taylor
If NYJ stayed here but OAK moved up (causing a 3-QB run), NYJ take Ertz
If NYJ stayed here, and OAK didn't move up, NYJ take the QB that JAX didn't

2-8-40: Tennessee will take Jonathan Cyprien (S Florida International) or Alex Okafor (DE Texas)
2-9-41: Buffalo will take Justin Hunter (WR Tennessee)

2-10-42:
If OAK moved up, SFF still takes Ertz or Taylor (probably Taylor, since Ertz goes to NYJ in this scenario)
If OAK stayed here, all the QBs they covet are gone so they'll take Terron Armstead (OT Ark-Pine Bluff)

With the Lions, Bengals, Cardinals, Titans and Bills all looking at very diverse holes to fill, I would not be surprised to see any of them trade down to accumulate picks. Possible trading candidates would be:

LIONS - Dallas or Pittsburgh, both of whom would love an early crack at Lacy or Montee Ball (RB Wisconsin) ahead of the Bengals
BENGALS - Tampa Bay, Chicago or NY Giants, any of whom would poach Carradine ahead of the Cardinals
CARDINALS - Just about anybody, because if they didn't get Carradine, they'd be okay with Alex Okafor (DE Texas), whom only the Titans would covet.
TITANS - Carolina or San Diego for a WR pick ahead of the Bills
BUFFALO - Pittsburgh, for the RB Cincinnati didn't take ahead of the Cowboys
