Football Gameplan's 2013 WK 4 Preview - Bengals vs Browns

Featured Replies

outside of some great backshoulder catches by Jordy Nelson, where was this "lazy downfield coverage" by the Bengals secondary?

Didn't allow rogers over 300 yards passing. Doesn't sound very lazy.

To those that look at only stats. 'Getting Lazy in Coverage' doesn't necessarily has to result in a pass going in that direction. Credit the front four for generating pressure and not giving the time for Rodgers to find those opportunities. That doesn't mean that guys weren't 'drifting' instead of 'covering through the whistle'

Actually, Diggy, you're projecting.  You see, we're not the one's looking at the stats.  We're the ones who actually watched the game in its entirety.

You should try that out.

It might help make you look a little bit less like just another internet hack who isn't paying attention to what's actually happening.

Do you watch from a coaches perspective or fan? Real question.

If you think you've spotted something EmDiggy, then illustrate it in your video.  But since Rogers and Ben Rothlesburger are known for extending plays for long periods and hitting open men - hell, that's Ben's entire game plan - and we've beaten both in the last two weeks I think you have a lot to sell in this particular regard.

There were clips in the Pitt game of our guys hanging on their man for 10 seconds or more and forcing Ben to throw the ball away.  And not every play with Rogers was a three second sack.  I don't know if any of them were.

A pretty funny one.  What are you coaching? Pee wee?  Or wait, you mean you played college ball too?

Child please.

Even the casual fan has easy access to coaches film now, and if you've played at a high enough level those two things make it pretty easy to evaluate a game.

But none of those skills are necessary to call out bullshit when you see it, and your assertion that our secondary had "lazy downfield coverage" qualifies as a giant, heaping pile of it.

So do yourself a favor and go back and watch the game.  You'll get major credit from me if you do, and come back and admit that you made a lazy post.

And yes, lazy is better for you in this case than the alternative: clueless.

I believe the term that Jon Gruden, a Super Bowl winning coach used, was PLASTERED.  As in our guys were plastered to theirs.

Did you answer my question?

In a preview video, they're more geared toward the next game..in the 'Film Session with the Czar' I get more into detail.. Like this for example -->

Once I get time (usually Jan) I'll put together another couple series of these style videos and I'll be sure to include this convo in the video to illustrate the example...cool?

Did you answer my question?

Yes. I am 100% and TOTALLY watching Bengals games from a coaching perspective.  No one on this board knows it, but I actually AM a Bengals coach.  I only come onto this board so that I can get challenging analysis from other NFL quality coaches such as yourself, because no one can give us a more unbiased and objective view of how and what we are doing better than outside observers.

Cool, so we'll wait until January for you to actually watch the game.

I say just wait and watch us live in February....

Hey guys, let's not attack EmDiggy. He is just posting his videos like he has for most of the games to a lot of sites about every team. We don't have to agree with his points but let him know without sounding like we are fighting.

Why do I get the sense that Emdiggy is trying to spin it where he doesn't like he's totally 100% incorrect on the assessment in regards to our secondary?

But pretty much the rest of you are right, this guy must not watch the full games. He probably relies on highlights like a lot of the idiot writers, commentators do.

Pretty much this.

Ding Ding Ding.  We have a winner. It's Gary!

It's nice to see that some people on here put accuracy at a higher premium than pleasantries.

The truth is, if EmDiggy ever wants to graduate from the level of drawing on eraser board in his basement he needs to hew to a higher standard, and on that level we're actually helping him.

See, I'm all about the growth mindset. The NYTimes just published a piece documenting studies showing that giving kids trophies  for just showing up is actually harmful for their future development (it relies in part on the research of Carol Dweck, who I've touted in these pages before):

A quick look at EmDiggy's LinkenIn profile suggests that this is a lesson he could learn:

But hey, he absolutely SLAYS them at Corinthian College.

Of course, he also has this little credit, so maybe I SHOULD go a little easier on him:

August 2012 – August 2012 (1 month) Towanda, PA

Broadcast Color Commentator for the Women's Spring Football League Championship Games

And then there's this, which basically just speaks for itself:

Comedy Book with a title that's a play on words. The word "Negus" pronounced "Neeguh" means a Title given to Ethiopian Royalty. The book is a compilation of Real-Life Answers from Real-Life People in Real-Life Situations. HILARIOUS

Anyone think Kenneth would find it HILARIOUS?

I have to clear up what I wrote above. I couldn't even understand the point I was trying to make..... Anyway, here goes;

I have NO problem with EMdiggy personally. He was called out for saying something that was far from the truth in regards to our pass defenders. When someone called him out on it he started spinning it to cover his own behind. Saying that's not what he meant ect ect...

If he doesn't watch the full game then it's fine. I know he would have to watch a ton of games if he's doing this for other teams. A LOT of reporters/commentators get their assessments wrong because they don't try to understand the fan base, and/or they didn't watch the games.

Anyhow, EMdiggy does a decent job overall, and I don't believe that he can get everything correct on every occasion. It would be asking too much to get everything right.

I generally agree with this post, however Im not sure understanding a fan base has any play when breaking down how a team is playing.
