Rotoworld reporting Brandon will be traded by next week and Choo is the Tigers (who just cleared a TON of cap) top option.  Hows that turd sandwhich for ya?

Window closing very fast.

makes you wonder how they are replacing all the offense they are losing.

I honestly think the window is closed for this team as presently constructed to win a world series.

Didn't have enough offense last year and you're losing 2 of your top producers with nothing to replace them.

Next year may not be too kind to us if we stand pat. Need some O. (And joey to swing the bat)

My WAY too early prediction is Reds finish 3rd in the division and miss the playoffs.

Cards, Pirates, Braves, Dodgers, and Washington are the 5 from the NL.

I will be surprised if Walt doesnt make a few moves to improve the offense. I think people are assuming if we trade phillips we will just get prospects or something. There is a decent chance we will get a major league ready player or two. It also frees up money to potentially sign an OF or 2B or 3B or something.

BTW a new mlbtraderumors report just came out saying reds unlikely to trade brandon...interesting...

Ugh.  We need to get rid of his awful contract and free-swinging ways.  I love Brandon, but he just hacks at too much garbage.  I want to see some patience up there this year.

In an ideal world, we get rid of Brandon for some nice prospects, sign a guy like Omar Infante to a decent contract and deal Homer for a nice outfield bat.

For the record, the quote was misquoted. The exact quote was:

"We had a nice long talk (Tuesday), we talked about his place on the club and I told him I don't really have any talks going with any clubs right now, not that that couldn't change, but as of right now you're part of this club and Redsfest is an important part of our program," Jocketty said. "(I told him) you love the fans, the fans love you and I think it'd be disappointing if you weren’t there. I think he might end up showing up."

Doesnt sound like its a guarantee he wont be traded. Plus wouldnt jocketty want people to think we arent trading him if we were actually planning on it?

IE when we traded carson. Make everyone think we arent going to trade him and have no desire to. Drives the price up.

If we do keep phillips, I hope we keep him in the 2 hole. I dont really like him at leadoff or cleanup.

I think if Price has a little different mentality regarding hitting than Dusty had, it will benefit BP (and others as well).

2 big holes are the same as they have been the last several years. Leadoff and cleanup. I could see Price batting Bruce cleanup though. That would leave Ludwick in the 5 hole likely. If Ludwick gets fully healthy and reverts back to 2012 ludwick, he'd make a good 5 hole hitter. But if he hits like he did in 2013, that will be a big black hole.

Need to find a CF that can get on base. Likely not as often as choo did, but it cant be as bad as it was from 2010-2012 with stubbs and gang.

I would try to go out and find a decent CF. A guy that hits maybe like 280-290, gets on base at a 360-370 clip. A guy that isnt that expensive. Also a guy that we could get for 3-4 years or so. A guy like a dexter fowler who was just traded to the astros for not that much. Then if and when Billy Hamilton is ready you could have him split time with Ludwick and eventually take over for him in 2014 (billy would play CF new CF would move to LF).

Another option that I still think is out there is getting a new 3B to upgrade Frazier and using frazier as your utility guy.

I keep forgetting we have a different manager this year, hopefully Walt will give him some options. He always gave Dusty options, you could say too many options....Corey Patterson(shudder)...

Price should be able to put together a decent lineup and Phillips will only help that I would think.

We have thrown our hat into the ring on Arroyo.  Getting him back would very likely mean Bailey is on the way out before the season, wouldn't it?

Think he would have been perfect to trade for Trumbo who just went to the D'Bags.

My understanding is jocketty is looking for guys with higher OBP. Trumbo doesnt quite fit that.

I didn't notice he had such a poor OBP.  Thats good to hear, though.  This team needs to get more guys on and to start working the count to get starters out of there.

On sports I thought I heard we were talking to Bailey's agent about a long term deal.

Could be a one or the other type situation where if Bailey signs we don't pursue Arroyo, or if Bailey refuses to sign we trade him and re-sign Arroyo.

Highly doubtful they could get latos and bailey to both sign long term deals.

Plus everything you hear these time of year is hard to take seriously. Ala the carson palmer trade, you dont want other teams to think you are willing to trade a guy.

IF we trade Brandon signing both of them is possible.

Otherwise, unless Homer is willing to take like 5-6M a year, sign Latos and trade Bailey. Should have some pretty good value.

If something got worked out, Id imagine they'd try to get a somewhat long term deal done with Gardner.

The difference in salary would, and this is straight conjecture, be used to sign bronson to say 3 years 30 mil or so.

Then, I'd guess youd see one of the other starters traded. Likely bailey, but possibly cueto or leake. Id think youd be able to get a solid starting 2B.

Hamilton you would then likely start in AAA and is the long term CF with Gardner moving over to LF in 2015 when Luddy is gone.

This is all conjecture based on the supposed confirmation by Heyman and Rosenthal that the reds were willing to trade phillips for gardner.
