Who Are The Bengals Looking At 2013/2014

Recommended Posts

It sound to me like you are starting to hedge.

on what? I've pretty much said all along top 40 and first back off the board....I've acknowledged that the "de-valuing" of his position in the NFL hurts his first rd chances...it's gonna be real close though.....even if he misses the cut for the first rd, I'm willing to bet he won't get by Cleveland at 35.....11 spots earlier isn't really so far-fetched if he's a guy they really like....which, who knows if they do? ...just seems like a good match.

This is pretty good to hear.  People are really down on the kid, but I've been taking him on all of those silly little mock games that were posted on here.  He's always available in the 7th in those, and he was pretty underwhelming at the combine from what I've heard. Still, he'd be one of those low-risk high reward types to take late.

he hasn't impressed me from what I've watched so far.  Given his stat line though, there must be better tape out there from what I've seen.

Yeah, that's the thing.  All of the flash was from his first season at Notre Dame, so you're basically betting on the kid to climb back to his former self.  As I implied, project...

I've seen him projected from the 2nd round all the way to 7th. Not really sure where he'll go.

He's strictly a RT too

Speaking of RTs, they are a lot easier to find than LTs, no?

This is just me doing some spit-balling out loud, but I wonder about one other interesting option that we may have at our disposal: moving Andre to LT.

He was the 4th overall choice or whatever but there was little question coming out that he could play LT (as he did for 'Bama). I'm not saying Whit should move inside to guard, but it seems a lot more difficult to find LTs than RTs, and it wouldn't be the dumbest thing in the world to take a RT that you could plug in play early, switch Andre, and have your bases better covered than put in a LT who wasn't ready or good enough.

And, again, I'm not assuming a Whit move. But he has been moved, and he's been injured, so it's an interesting strategy from a drafting perspective that I hadn't really considered before (and it happens all the time elsewhere in the league).

I believe they tried that early in his career with little success. I wouldn't be against it. LT's are extraordinarily hard to find. Lets hope that Collins doesn't like the humidity in Florida.

@DougKyedNESN: Lots of scouts here for BC's pro day. Patriots, Seahawks, Texans, Bengals, more.

Checking out Andre Williams and who else?

They've got a LB, Pierre-Louis, who is an excellent athlete… kind of a late-rising prospect.

looks like the other guy in the photo above is Braydon Coombs

Bengals special teams coach attends Oklahoma Pro day http://sbn.to/1oO4JOT

That's cool to see.

Jalen Saunders, whom I like a lot, is a return specialist/Swiss Army knife/Baby Hawk type, plus they have a deep snapper (forget his name)… and Millard, who I guess didn't work out (rehabbing from torn ACL) - but between his position versatility between FB and H-back/TE, is also a very good ST player.

yea seems like they are all targets.

It's no coincidence that Oklahoma has a return specialist, good RB prospect, and maybe the top FB prospect, and the Bengals sent their assistant Special Teams coach and their RB coach.

Austin Woods, one heck of a tough son of a gun with one heck of a story to tell. He's spent his down time for the last couple of years beating cancer, & barely missed a practice in doing it. I'd SO love to see him make some coin in the league.

Representatives from 27 NFL teams — including Cincinnati Bengals tight ends coach Jonathan Hayes — were on hand for Colorado State’s pro day on Wednesday. A total of nine Colorado State players — plus five others from area small colleges such as Adams State, Colorado Mesa, Fort Lewis and Northern Colorado — worked out indoors on FieldTurf.

Colorado State had three players at the NFL Scouting Combine, with the most promising prospect being center Weston Richburg. Richburg (6-foot-3 3/4, 304 pounds) stood on his numbers from the combine. He was worked out in offensive line drills by Hayes, who is one of the best there is at working these type of players out. Richburg responded with a really good workout.

If a team is looking for the next Alex Mack, Richburg is that guy. He’ll be your starting center for the next 10 years.

Crockett Gillmore, TE (6-5 3/4, 260) — Gillmore, who was at the combine, ran the 40-yard dash in 4.80 and 4.84 seconds. He pulled up on the second 40 attempt with a strained hamstring and didn’t do any more drills.

Kapri Bibbs, RB (5-11, 208) — Bibbs had a toe injury, but still managed to work out and do so impressively. He ran the 40 three times, in 4.54, 4.59 and 4.57 seconds. He did the short shuttle in 4.61 seconds and the three-cone drill in 7.50 seconds (this drill is particularly difficult with a hurt toe). Bibbs, who was at the combine, also displayed an ability to adeptly catch the football out of the backfield.

Shaquil Barrett, OLB (6-1 3/8, 251) — Barrett — the Mountain West Defensive Player of the Year for 2013 — ran the 40 in 4.78, 4.74 and 4.73 seconds. He had a 29-inch vertical jump and a 9-foot-5 broad jump. He did the short shuttle in 4.42 seconds and the three-cone in 6.90 seconds. He performed 16 reps of 225 pounds on the bench press.

Not sure I buy that.

WEAKNESSES

Lacks ideal girth and could be stressed by widebody nose tackles. Average hip snap -- lacks body power to blow defensive tackles off the ball. Lacks elite athleticism to execute reach blocks. Can improve grip strength to better control defenders (average sustain) -- slides off some blocks. Inconsistent contact balance, especially at the second level where he can be more efficient connecting and fitting.
