-GoBengals-
its obvious barry bonds with his health and age has turned himself into a hitting specialist, his fielding skills are obsolete, but he can sure as fuck swing a bat... i think its getting that time for griffey, he hurts himself running for fly balls, not even diving anymore... just running.... stick him in right field, leave pena in center, dunce in left... and get his ass in batting practice ASAP... he was stroking some nice deep home runs for a month or so... it was great, ...i even expected a home run when he was at bat for a while....i think he could easily mold himself into a barry bonds like role and have bonds like numbers.... i think griffey had a better career when the two were younger, i could be wrong... any thoughts? |Bunghole|
a more limited role for Griffey is apparently already in the works...he's being moved from center to either right or left field, can't remember, with the emergence of Wily Mo Coyote as a force with the bat they want to put Pena in center, griffey and dunn in the outfield, with Kearns going to third...if all stay healthy it's really quite a formidable outfield...tons of power! Griff's sweet stroke, Dunn's sheer power and Pena, who hits the ball harder than just about anyone I've ever see (just needs to develop a better eye for breaking balls, IMHO) would scare me if I was pitching...then you get no relief because there's also Casey and Kearns to face...god, I can't believe I'm already getting a woody about the Reds and baseball just ended!!!! Now about those roids....

|Bunghole|
Paul Wilson, Luke Hudson, Brandon Claussen, Hancock-we've got some good arms in there...we need to ditch Graves and his top-heavy salary, let Valentine and his 96 mph fastball close and acquire a couple decent pitchers and we'll be OK...no buzkill here... I watched only a couple of games last year, but out of the pitcher names you said, I only know of Wilson and Graves, And I had to dig deep in my mind for Wilson lol. Guest Bengal_Smoov
Pitching is and will be the strength or weakness of this team. When we won the World Series in 90' it was on the strength of the Nasty Boys, the good ol' days. Our hitting is going to be there, our pitching should be our strength. BuckWoody
I really believe that the reason Bonds has been so phenomenal in his later years is simply because of his use of steroids. Not that it increases his natural born talent but it allows him to train longer and harder and recover more quickly afterwards. Steroids and a strict off-season workout program have helped him avoid injury and maintain his level of play. Again, I don’t think that steroids alone help him play better or hit the ball farther but it helps immeasurably when you train and condition in the off-season. If Junior was on the juice like Bonds and worked out in the off-season like Bonds, I think he could follow the same path…the one straight to Hell. Just my thoughts…
|Bunghole|
Unfortunately pitching is what EVERY team either wants, needs, desires, has or doesn't have-and there's only so many quality arms out there, and only so many teams that are willing/can afford to pay them. Sofa_King_Cool
If Griffy Jr. were to go back to the AL and become a DH then he would able to extend his career and hit more HR and maybe break the record before entering the HOF. I like using initials. It reminds me of that scene from 'Good Morning Vietnam.' "The former VP is a VIP and we better keep this on the QT before he winds up an MIA and we are all put on KP." hiyall69
Pitching is and will be the strength or weakness of this team. When we won the World Series in 90' it was on the strength of the Nasty Boys, the good ol' days. Our hitting is going to be there, our pitching should be our strength. <{POST_SNAPBACK}> Are you talking about next years team or 1990's. The pitching again next year will be horrible. Linder will not pay money to get any pitching. We will once again have a bunch of newcomers trying to fill the void in the bullpen that was left after the 2003 firesale. Linder is not interested in winning, he has admitted to this much... he only want to draw even with the club. Not looking to make a profit. Which is crap! He made a ton of profit on the first half of the year when the Reds were in contention and yet he continues to cut payroll. He is trying to turn us into the KC Royals. With Linder's frugle ass, I don't expect to see Dunn, Kearns or Pena after they demand a bigger contract. I really hope that Linder is gone soon. Get someone in there that wants to win. As for the starting rotation, it looks good. Wilson could win 15 games next year, he should have had it last year if it wasn't for the damn bullpen. Harrang and Hudson really came on strong at the end. Claussen looked good at times, and last years experience should help for this year. I'm not a big fan of Hancock, he never really impressed me. BTW is Harrang gone?
Rudi05
Bonds is a great hitter, the roids did not make him a great hitter. lots of players are on roids, Bonds is better than them. Griffey is a stud, and just needs to stay healthy to prove it, its not his hitting he needs help with, its his body, in my opinion.
