New York (CNN) -- A New York man armed with a rifle, boxes of ammunition and a machete was arrested Friday after allegedly threatening to kill former President George W. Bush, according to a federal court complaint.

Benjamin Smith, a resident of upstate New York, threatened to "kill, kidnap and inflict bodily harm" on Bush, the complaint said.

Smith also professed a love interest in Barbara, one of the former president's twin daughters, according to the complaint filed Friday in U.S. District Court in Manhattan.

"Bush will get his," Smith allegedly screamed as he was being arrested, said the complaint.

The U.S. Secret Service was alerted to the threat after Smith's mother found a note in the home they share in which he allegedly wrote that he's "going to work for George W. Bush and the Pentagon," the complaint said.

Smith also allegedly wrote: "I have to slay a dragon and then Barbara Bush is mine... America is finished. Obama, Etc."

Smith's defense lawyer, Peggy Cross-Goldenberg, did not immediately return a call seeking comment. It was not clear whether Smith remained in custody Saturday evening.

When I first saw this, I was like this guy must be mad seeking a relationship with Barbara Bush...  then I remembered the other Bush...

On Friday, agents found Smith sitting in his car in Manhattan, with a loaded .38-caliber rifle, two boxes of ammunition, a container of gasoline and a machete, according to authorities.

During questioning, Smith told Secret Service agents, "I'm divorced and not currently seeing anyone, but I am working on a relationship with Barbara Bush," the complaint said.

In the article they reference the Wolfowitz Doctrine.  Kind of went off on a tangent momentarily but came around full circle eventually...

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Wolfowitz_Doctrine

Wolfowitz Doctrine

Defense Planning Guidance for the 1994–99 fiscal years... (dated February 18, 1992) authored by Under Secretary of Defense for Policy Paul Wolfowitz and his deputy Scooter Libby.

Unilateralism

Like the coalition that opposed Iraqi aggression, we should expect future coalitions to be ad hoc assemblies, often not lasting beyond the crisis being confronted, and in many cases carrying only general agreement over the objectives to be accomplished. Nevertheless, the sense that the world order is ultimately backed by the U.S. will be an important stabilizing factor.

The following doctrine (Defense Planning Guidance for the 1994–99 fiscal years) was declassified.  Formerly a Secret document draft in PDF format so I had to look and type instead of copy and paste.

http://www.archives.gov/declassification/iscap/pdf/2008-003-docs1-12.pdf

Page 6 in handwritten note...

"oil flows in adequate amounts at reasonable prices,"

The statement in context:  " ...Iraq's dangerous military has been greatly damaged, our ties with moderate states are stronger, (oil flows in adequate amounts at reasonable prices,) and Arabs and Israelis have for the first time in many years met to discuss peace."

It is telling when it is necessary to include the above as a statement in the proof copy.  The importance of oil is quite noted.  As someone wiser than myself stated, sometimes it is about the Neutral Details...  Lots of handwritten notes throughout the doctrine which gives a slight window into their ideas in publishing the Defense Planning Guidance.  Even to the point that some of this was developed in advance of speeches the President was going to give within the next two months (prior to publishing).

"Obama, etc" is fuckin great. That's the new "Thanks Obama".

"Damn, it's really cold out! Obama, etc"

Also, .38 seems like an odd caliber for a rifle.

The gun this guy used was a Rossi .38-caliber rifle which I believe is a lever action style of rifle which carries in a tube type magazine about 8 rounds or so.  Rossi makes them in a variety of pistol calibers.  Not sure of the reasoning behind putting a pistol caliber in a long rifle that is lever action.  IMHO, not much is gained in velocity and practically nothing gained in terms of accuracy.

Cheaper ammo maybe? (Been awhile since I've bought any)

Anybody buying ammo nowadays with few exceptions, pays more per round than say 5 years ago.

.38 S&W costs about $0.46 per round

5.56 NATO costs about $0.35 per round

5.45 costs about $0.15 per round

The above are quick estimates from http://ammoseek.com/ammo/ and are not the absolute cheapest a person can buy each round for.
