My TV took a shit in time for football season

Recommended Posts

Yesterday morning my samsung LCD just cut out on its own. It won't turn on, I flipped the breaker switch, changed outlets and used a different power cord from our bedroom tv.

So I'm trying to figure out what to do, I called geek squad and they are talking like it's going to cost $300-$400 for a repair because they would have to send it out. Does anyone know any other options?

With LEDs being pretty affordable, should I just go that route? The tv that's broke is a 40" and I can get a 48" vizio for $400... Any suggestions are appreciated.

Depends on how much you spent on the TV to begin with. If you spent a couple thousand then 300-400 isn't bad. If you didn't, get a new one or shop for a cheaper repair price.

What you originally spent is kind of meaningless. If you can get a better, new TV now with the same amount it costs to repair then get a new TV.

IMO, never spend more than $100 to repair a TV with the prices as low as they are today.

I personally don't like Vizio but I'm picky. I'm not a fan of LCD either (that LED your looking at is likely LCD with LED backlight). If you're willing to go plasma you can get 50" for $500, 60" for $600, etc. The new high end LEDs are pretty awesome, but those are like $2k+.

If you want to save even more there's this 42" LG LED for $299.
