Eric Church, who was one of the headlining acts at the Route 91 Festival in Las Vegas, said the NRA is to blame for the mass shooting that occurred in October 2017.

A crazed gunman opened fire at the crowd of festivalgoers while Church's fellow country star Jason Aldean was performing, taking the lives of at least 59 people. It was the deadliest mass shooting in modern U.S. history.

Church, who said he considers himself a "Second Amendment guy," blamed the NRA and gun lobbyists for being a "roadblock" to gun safety in a new interview.

"There are some things we can't stop," Church told Rolling Stone. "Like the disgruntled kid who takes his dad's shotgun and walks into a high school. But we could have stopped the guy in Vegas."

But he added, "I blame the lobbyists. And the biggest in the gun world is the NRA."

The "Desperate Man" singer said the NRA has "been a bit of a roadblock."

I'd think it's easier to stop that than a determined loony/fanatic adult.  Counselors, art/music & any non-sport afterschool programs are the first things that get cut from public school budgets.  I suspect this has more to do with the rise of school shootings than video games or the availability of firearms that have been ubiquitous in this country for the last 200+ years.

3D printed guns? "You're keeping "LAW ABIDING citizens  from getting them!"

Just kidding. The NRA won't allow it because it will hurt the gun manufacturers ...

They're talking about some CAD file or whatever, maybe a few MB at most.  We can't stop literal tons of narcotics travelling across the country every day - good luck banning something you could download anonymously in seconds.   This is grandstanding at best, or more likely laying the groundwork for choking open access to the internet.

Halfway through their national tour of registering young people to vote and raising awareness about gun violence, survivors of the Marjory Stoneman Douglas High School shooting will step off their bus Saturday at the Fairfax headquarters of the National Rifle Association.

The teens will be joined by activists, protesters and survivors of gun violence to protest the NRA’s role in blocking gun-control laws and defending sales of guns such as the AR-15, the semiautomatic rifle used in the Parkland, Fla., massacre.

The protest, dubbed the “National March on the NRA,” will begin at noon. It is expected to last three hours.

Demonstrators say they will come with a number of demands and policy proposals.

Among them are a ban on high-capacity magazines and “any weapon of a caliber higher than .30 caliber or more and any rifle, long gun, or short-barreled rifle that fires in semi-automatic and takes self-loading magazines,” and the institution of universal background checks through the National Instant Criminal Background Check System. They also want a searchable database of gun owners run through the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives.

The AR-15 fires a .223 caliber round..

and any rifle, long gun, or short-barreled rifle that fires in semi-automatic and takes self-loading magazines,

That's redundant; any semi-auto is self-loading by definition.  Also I'm not sure why they'd exempt handguns as they are far, far more common murder weapons.

The rest of their proposals are generally good ideas IMO but it really hurts their cause when they demand things that demonstrate they don't understand what they are saying.  That's fine if the goal is to march around and get on TV, but if they want to be taken seriously by legislators and gun owners it would help to show a working knowledge of the subject.

I mean, fuck the NRA, but:

Governor Andrew M. Cuomo today directed the Department of Financial Services to urge insurance companies, New York State-chartered banks, and other financial services companies licensed in New York to review any relationships they may have with the National Rifle Association and other similar organizations. Upon this review, the companies are encouraged to consider whether such ties harm their corporate reputations and jeopardize public safety.

If that's accurate, that's not OK.  The State of NY should not be telling people who they should do business with, even if they do suck. In other words don't act like this is cool then get upset when, say, Alabama tells companies in the state not to deal with anyone donating to Planned Parenthood.

Some dickless wonder just shot up a Madden tournament in Jacksonville.   4 dead, 10 wounded, suspect dead.  Not sure if there was a 2nd shooter, or if that 4 dead includes fuckstick or not. Jax PD still clearing the venue, pizza/sportsbar spot from the sound of it. Apparently it was being broadcast on Twitch, some kind of release party I'd guess?

Why on earth do you need to bring a gun to a video game tournament in the first place? Are you worried some nerd is gonna run up on you?

There's a ton of shit-talking at Madden tourneys, plus some of these guys have real money sponsorships. There have been fights.  The "esports" stuff is big now, some games have extra shitty communities too so this is kind of a wake-up call.  Obviously sucks that it takes such an extreme example for folks to consider not being an utter shitbag just because they're anonymous.

You know for all the accusations about violent videogames, I play an FPS called "Rising Storm 2: Vietnam" with fairly authentic automatic weapons, napalm & The Horror it has a much better community than stuff like Fortnite or League of Legends.

On that note, PM me your Steam ID's  :D

Isn't that exactly what happened?

No.

Exactly what happened was that someone who had received treatment for physiological and emotional issues legally bought a gun and decided that he was going to use it on innocent people because he didnt have the emotional capacity to allow himself to not be as good as he thought he was.

..at something entirely pointless & inconsequential.  Like, go get good at anything that matters.

If there's a silver lining, it's been a few days now & I've obviously been following the story: I still don't know the shooter's name.
