Jamie_B Posted March 16, 2015 Report Posted March 16, 2015 I'd like to think he wouldn't do so if he didn't have a chance, either that or the new Comish is a douche and let him think he has a chance only to crush it after he did this. http://espn.go.com/mlb/story/_/id/12494312/pete-rose-makes-formal-request-mlb-commissioner-rob-manfred-lift-life-ban
-GoBengals- Posted March 17, 2015 Report Posted March 17, 2015 he definetly deserves to be back in... he will get snubbed on the HOF for a while though..
|Lucid| Posted March 17, 2015 Report Posted March 17, 2015 Unfortunately I always thought he won't make it in until he dies, and then there will be a swell of support that will carry him into the Hall. It would be nice for him to at least get reinstated before he does so he can live to see a little redemption.
Jamie_B Posted March 17, 2015 Author Report Posted March 17, 2015 I've thought the same, but you'd think he wouldnt even try to get this if he didnt think he had a chance at it. Hope its not a case of new comish being a douche
oldschooler Posted March 18, 2015 Report Posted March 18, 2015 Jacob Pomrenke @buckweaver 5h5 hours ago Pete Rose wouldn't be the 1st "permanently banned" MLBer to be reinstated. I talked with @ctrent about his case: http://www.cincinnati.com/story/redsblog/2015/03/17/xpert-rose-situation-is-unprecedented-as-far-as-hall/24896901/ …

Hope its not a case of new comish being a douche Yeah, I would hope he has a chance at reinstatement, but something tells me the sportswriters are going to remain pricks until after he dies..
Bengals1181 Posted March 18, 2015 Report Posted March 18, 2015 Yeah, I would hope he has a chance at reinstatement, but something tells me the sportswriters are going to remain pricks until after he dies.. I think a realistic scenario is something in the middle. He gets allowed to be voted on for the Hall of Fame as a player, but he remains banned from holding any position related to baseball and limited to special appearances at GABP for the Reds.
Jason Posted March 18, 2015 Report Posted March 18, 2015 FREE PETE! Beats the "fivepete" talk that's been going on around here lately.
T-Dub Posted March 18, 2015 Report Posted March 18, 2015 Yeah, I would hope he has a chance at reinstatement, but something tells me the sportswriters are going to remain pricks until after he dies the heat-death of the universe.. Fixed
Jamie_B Posted March 18, 2015 Author Report Posted March 18, 2015 I think a realistic scenario is something in the middle. I think that's the most fair solution honestly.
Bengals1181 Posted March 18, 2015 Report Posted March 18, 2015 is he in the reds hall of fame/his number retired? I could see that being allowed too.
CincyInDC Posted March 18, 2015 Report Posted March 18, 2015 Pete is not a member of the Reds Hall of Fame, but there is a ton of exhibit space devoted to him. I'm pretty sure his number is not retired but no one uses it, either.

|Lucid| Posted March 19, 2015 Report Posted March 19, 2015 I think a realistic scenario is something in the middle. He gets allowed to be voted on for the Hall of Fame as a player, but he remains banned from holding any position related to baseball and limited to special appearances at GABP for the Reds. Like I said, I think there is a good chance the commish is going to reinstate him into baseball. That doesn't mean he will ever be allowed to manage again. But it will allow him to appear as his own likeness, appear in a Jersey and take part in Baseball events. This also allows him to be voted on into HOF's (Reds and MLB), but I just think the sportswriters aren't going to vote him in until after he dies. There is a pretty big sentiment from them that Pete is a dirt-bag. Remember, that during the day he was kind of like Hines Ward (although a FAR better player for his sport). He was hated by all the teams that played us because of the way he played the game. There are many that will never forgive him for ending Ray Fosse's career by running him over at an All Star game. As loved as he is in Cinci, he is also vilified elsewhere. I really hope I am wrong.
-GoBengals- Posted March 20, 2015 Report Posted March 20, 2015 i dont think it will be after he dies, unless he dies young, as it will only take long enough for the old ass pricks to die before him, no one 40 and under is an stingy as the old bats who never vote guys in first ballet no matter what, etc... baseball hof sports writers vote is a pathetic system of snobby twats... IMO
CincyInDC Posted March 20, 2015 Report Posted March 20, 2015 it'll be nice to be able to buy a Rose jersey or t-shirt off the rack.
Jason Posted March 20, 2015 Report Posted March 20, 2015 it'll be nice to be able to buy a Rose jersey or t-shirt off the rack. Yeah, I'd love to get a Rose jersey.

I know he isnt the only one, but the guy charges for his autograph, IIRC there was a time he was setting up shop outside and across the street of the HOF during the ceremonies charging for memorabilia. As a person Pete Rose is a giant douchebag. As a player he deserves to be in the HOF.
oldschooler Posted April 17, 2015 Report Posted April 17, 2015 Mr. Commissioner, Cincinnati wants Pete Rose back in baseball WCPO
oldschooler Posted April 23, 2015 Report Posted April 23, 2015 Commissioner: Rose will be allowed to be part of All-Star Game http://bit.ly/1PqShDY
Jamie_B Posted April 24, 2015 Author Report Posted April 24, 2015 Best story in Baseball would be for them to announce him being alowed into the HOF at the All Star Game since it's here this year.
Jamie_B Posted April 24, 2015 Author Report Posted April 24, 2015 Although that article the last paragraph doesnt give me much hope
Jamie_B Posted June 22, 2015 Author Report Posted June 22, 2015 This is probably going to hurt his chances http://espn.go.com/espn/otl/story/_/id/13114874/notebook-obtained-lines-shows-pete-rose-bet-baseball-player-1986
