Who would you like to see win the Republican and Democratic nominations?

Kind of an offshoot from Weston's thread. Of those announced or expected to be running, who would you like to see get the nomination from each party. You have name someone from each party, even if it's the lesser of many evils. No naming your guy and saying the other party is crazy. It may be interesting to also name the person from each party that you'd hate to see get the nomination.

Here's a list I got from Ballotpedia.

Democrats

Declared
Lincoln Chafee
Hillary Clinton
Lawrence Lessig
Martin O'Malley
Bernie Sanders

Dropped out
Jim Webb

Declined to run
Joe Biden
Andrew Cuomo
Al Gore
Dennis Kucinich
Brian Schweitzer
Elizabeth Warren

Republicans

Declared
Jeb Bush
Ben Carson
Chris Christie
Ted Cruz
Carly Fiorina
Jim Gilmore
Lindsey Graham
Mike Huckabee
Bobby Jindal
John Kasich
George Pataki
Rand Paul
Marco Rubio
Rick Santorum
Donald Trump

Dropped out
Rick Perry
Scott Walker

Declined to run
Kelly Ayotte
Nikki Haley
Peter King
Susana Martinez
Mike Pence
Mitt Romney
Paul Ryan
Brian Sandoval

Third-party candidates

Declared
Green Party Jill Stein

Warner, Warren and Sanders.

I know nothing about Peter King but I like this

Criticism of potential opponents
  • Peter King criticized Sen. Rand Paul and called him an "isolationist." He explained, "I don't want the field to be dominated by people like Rand Paul. Rand Paul is an isolationist. ...This is an extremely dangerous world. We do not have the luxury of hiding. We cannot retreat within our borders. And I terribly resent his implication that the U.S. is somehow the cause of aggression around the world."[3]
  • King criticized Sen. Ted Cruz and called him a "nihilist." King said, "The whole concept of shutting the government down and also this dogmatic opposition to any type of compromise. I can bargain, I can negotiate, I can move the ball down the field."[3]

As a Virginian I liked Warner as our governor, as a Senator he has been downright awful, I told him when he voted in favor of the Continuing Appropriations Act of 2015, that his support of it would lose my vote, and he responded with an answer that had nothing to do with the question I asked.

He voted for this. Fuck him.

On that list who hasn't said she isn't running (Warren) I'd take Gillibrand or O'Malley.

On the Rs, maybe Kasich

Haven't really been a fan of Kasich, but there's definitely worse out there. He "fixed" the state budget issues by kicking the can down to the local level, where they don't have money either.

Independent Bernie Sanders is expected to make an announcement that he will be running as a Democrat. You guys complaining that Obama is a Socialist, well now a self-described Socialist is getting into the race.

Now excuse me while I rail on Obamacare until I need it...

Seems odd that after years of many of you ridiculing anyone who suggested you, and/or the Democrat party were Socialists, (as Jamie just did again) now you seem to be embracing a Socialist.

BTW, it's not like I'm name calling or trying to back you into a corner. If you're a Socialist, just say it. Elflocko and Weston basically just did. How about you Jamie? It looks like we've reached a point in America where it's safe to just come out and say it. So just say it.

*sigh* If you think Obama and the Dems are socalist you are going to see what am actual socialist is with independent running as a Democrat because the system isn't friendly to independents, Bernie Sanders.

And as a liberal Id rather have Elizabeth Warren. But if the choice is between Sandars and corporatist, neocon Hillary, Id vote for the socialist. But no that doesnt make me a socialist.

Uh, I have said so for quite some time. In fact, when people called me "a liberal" my stock response has been "Don't insult me, I'm a left-wing, tree-hugging Socialist". ^_^

I try to stay away from the labels and just focus on ideas. I agree with most of his ideas. If that makes me a socialist I am fine with that but that's coming from the outside in. I would bet you would agree with almost every idea that he posts on his page too. They are just common sense. Fix the infrastructure. Stop letting corporations get away with pretty much whatever they wish.

Out of all the candidates, I believe I prefer Rand Paul. I wanted Ron to get the nod in 2012, but that did not occur.

Interesting. So is it the Paul family's longstanding ties to the KKK and other racist wingnuts, or his complete lack of credible policy that you find appealing?

Or was it this guy?

updated the OP. Reddit loves Bernie Sanders and I'm begining to see why. Not sure he has a real shot though, which is sad. I really like how realistic he is on changing the system, saying that electing him alone wouldn't be enough as the problems are large enough that a single president can't fix it.

Love this answer

"Right now, the Congressional leadership represents the interests of the wealthiest people in this country and the largest corporations. Instead of raising the minimum wage, they're giving tax breaks to billionaires and cutting nutrition programs. Nothing will change unless millions of people demand it and that's what this campaign is all about -- mobilizing people at the grassroots level"
