Rumble In the Jungle
The Cincinnati Bengals announced the release of seven players on Monday, as they work to trim their roster down to 75 players by Tuesday. The list of players either released or placed on waivers includes:DT Kwame GeathersOL Chris JasperseLB Nico JohnsonWR Desmond LawrenceDE Sam MontgomeryTE John PetersWR Denarius MooreMoore, 26, is a former fifth-round pick of the Raiders back in 2011. He’s played his four-year, $2,230,052 rookie contract that included just $190,052 guaranteed before signing a one-year contract with the Bengals back in April. In 2014, Moore appeared in 10 games and caught 12 passes for 115 yards receiving and no touchdowns. Pro Football Focus has him down for playing 237 total snaps last year to go along with a poor rating as a receiver.

ColdWarrior
Nico is a surprise, but it bodes well for Carter - not so much because Carter could play MLB (?) but just in general terms of LB's on roster.

SFMAJOR
Here are the rules for PS Eligibility.EligibilityPractice squads are considered to be for developmental purposes. Therefore, veterans are not eligible to be signed to the practice squad. In fact, players with more than one year of accrued NFL service are not eligible. Here is a closer look at the eligibility requirements.A player is eligible if he does not have an accrued season of NFL experience. Players gain an accrued season by being on the active roster for at least six games. If a player has one accrued season, they can still be practice squad eligible if they were on the 45-man active gameday roster for less than nine regular season games.A player is deemed to have served a season on the practice squad if he remains on the practice squad for at least three weeks. Players are eligible to be on the practice squad for two seasons.Players can be eligible for a third practice squad season if their team maintains no less than 53 players on the active/inactive list at all times.Hope this helps. sparky151
Guys who are waived have to clear waivers to become free agents. So they can be claimed by another team. A released veteran like Moore becomes a free agent immediately.
|westside bengal|
Players with less than 4 years accrued seasons are waived. Those players are put on the waiver wire and can be claimed by another team. There is a waiver wire claiming order based on the claiming's team finishing order from the previous season getting first choice. Like Sparky said Moore is a vet since he has 4 or more accrued seasons.and can sign with a team of his choosing immediately.I think it still works this way. That's his ticket.Myself, I'm not suprised about Nico, although I admit I thought both he and Moore would make it thru this round of cuts.
EnglishBengal
Yeah, the tougher cuts have yet to be made, but I think the tea leaves are pointing to Carter making the team. Maybe, but he'll still have to beat out Flowers.

alleycat
I hope Deshawn Williams makes it too. Two words: Clint McDonald. We liked him but were "heavy" at the position and so unloaded him for a scrub CB who didn't even stick. McDonald has gone on to produce solidly year after year, something I would expect to see given Williams small but impressive sample size thus far. alleycat
The really interesting, almost nail-bitingly suspenseful position group on the team is DLine. I think 4 guys are vying for two spots (and I'm assuming we go with 10):Peko, Still, Sims, WilliamsI just don't think they let Hunt go (unless they can swing a trade). alleycat
Peko is a lock.I'm sure he is, but I'm wishing he wasn't. I've been getting closer and closer to being on the fence with him lately, and this preseason has pushed me over. He had two good plays last night (Pressure on Dunlap's sack (though it didn't influence the play) and he strung out a run to the edge). Otherwise he was consistently driven well off the ball and the odd man out on passing downs who wasn't gaining an inch while the other guys were all crushing in. Leadership, blah blah blah. I'd rather my leaders make an impact on the field first, and I'm sorry to say that I think it's time for Peko to be put out to pasture.
|High School Harry|
My best case scenario for Peko is for someone to whisper in his ear "injury" and "retire with dignity". But he is a liability to the team now.btw... excellent stull, Mr. Alley

I'm thinking Deshawn will be Clinton MacDonald 2.0 and I'm afraid Terrell Warston will be DeDe Dorsey 2.0 - except Terrell will last longer in the league than DeDe did. I really think Terrell is going to become somebody's #1 back. That young man has size, moves, and vision.
Arkansas Bengal
Bengals waive two more backups ahead of Tuesday's deadline Coley Harvey, ESPN Staff Writer CINCINNATI -- Backups Tevin Reese and Mark Weisman became the eighth and ninth players to be cut from the Cincinnati Bengals' roster, when they were waived Monday afternoon. Earlier in the day seven others, including receiver Denarius Moore, were released as the Bengals work down to Tuesday afternoon's deadline to get to a 75-man roster limit. By Saturday, another 22 players will be cut as the Bengals make their way to the 53-man roster they will carry into the regular season. Currently, there are 78 players on the roster. While both Reese and Weisman were waived, Weisman was let go under the waived/injured designation. It means that if he clears waivers Tuesday, he will revert back to the Bengals' injured reserve. There, he will join receiver James Wright, who went on IR at the start of training camp because of offseason knee surgery. It's unclear what Weisman's injury is, but he appeared on 15 offensive snaps in last Saturday's preseason win against Chicago. Weisman hasn't had a hand-off, but he has appeared as a blocker on offense and been a special teams contributor. Weisman appeared in each of the Bengals' first preseason games. Reese only appeared in the opener against the Giants. He later picked up an undisclosed injury and didn't finish the preseason. http://espn.go.com/blog/cincinnati-bengals/post/_/id/18706/bengals-tevin-reese-mark-weisman-waive-backups-tuesday-cuts

And this may sound insane but I could almost see an argument for taking Watson over Gio. I know, I know, insane. But Gio hasn't been getting much done lately and we have two other scatback types who are very likely to make the team. Meanwhile, we have no bellcows who can manage to fall forward and get that extra couple of yards in the way that Hill can -- or in the way that Watson has clearly shown as well. I never believed I'd be suggesting such a thing even a year ago. What gives, Gio? Is that trade-bait I smell?

Are you some kind of God that oversees these roster moves?Ha. I guess it's a habit. I've been wrong before too.But with Hawk, I simply look at any of the other players he will ultimately be competing with for roster space. You can't keep everyone, and I just don't see enough from him to justify disallowing a younger guy (even someone like Flowers?) the opportunity to develop. At this point, I'll be grateful if Vontaze comes back at all this season, as I'm starting to have my doubts...

|High School Harry|
Bengals final moves to get to 75 (from Hobson)The Bengals got down to 75 players Tuesday morning when they moved three injured players off the roster, led by first-round pick Cedric Ogbuehi. Ogbuehi, who tore his ACL in his last college game, went to the reserve/non-football injury list, which means he suffered the injury before he reported to training camp. As expected, that makes him eligible to start practicing after the sixth week of the regular season. Also headed that way is linebacker Sean Porter after he was move to the reserve/PUP list as he recovers from an ACL tear last preseason. Ogbuehi and Porter would be eligible to start practicing the seventh week of the regular season, the Bengals’ bye week.Wide receiver Onterio McCalebb (hamstring) was waived injured and if he’s not claimed on waivers he’ll revert to the season-ending injured reserve list.
