Stealers' lineman wants Bengals in playoffs, 'where they choke'

Ben Rohrbach

There was no love lost between the Pittsburgh Stealers and Cincinnati Bengals on Sunday. The AFC North battle began with a pregame brawl between the two teams, and it ended with a 33-20 Stealers victory that knocked the Bengals from their perch atop the conference. In between, Cincinnati star quarterback Andy Dalton suffered what is feared to be a season-ending broken thumb injury.

And the rivalry continues to carry over. Following the game, Bengals offensive tackle Andrew Whitworth blamed the brawl on the NFL's failure to discipline Vince Williams for threats the Stealers linebacker made against Cincinnati counterpart Vontaze Burfict on Twitter. Later Sunday night, Pittsburgh offensive lineman Marcus Gilbert rattled the Bengals' cage with a with to meet them in the playoffs, "where they choke."

Indeed, Cincinnati has been one-and-done in the NFL's wild-card playoff round each of the past four seasons, and somewhat surprisingly they appear headed for a similar fate despite starting 8-0 in 2015. Remarkably, while the Stealers (8-5) currently find themselves on the outside looking into the playoff picture, there's actually a chance the Bengals (10-3) could be the team of the two missing the playoffs.

With the Stealers, Kansas City Chiefs and New York Jets all owning 8-5 records, Cincinnati could be watching from home come January if AJ McCarron can't pull out a win against the San Francisco 49ers, Denver Broncos or Baltimore Ravens down the stretch. In all likelihood, though, both teams will make the playoffs, and Gilbert could get his wish, especially if the Bengals fail to secure a first-round bye.

I just find it funny Gilbert said, "The talking is done between the lines," on the same day his entire team did a ton of talking before the game even started. Although, technically it was done between the lines.

I would absolutely love a rematch in the playoffs.

It'd be entertaining for sure.

I understand the bravado of wanting to "show them" them and it certainly would be entertaining as far as shit talking goes, but its Nightmare of epic proportions for the Bengals.  While he may have no room to personally talk, he's not lying at all about choking.  I atleast give him that.

Nothing to do with Bravdo, revenge or showing them.     The Bengals at this point have really nothing to lose.    It's all about what you can gain.

Very few people would expect them to win a playoff game in general.    The doubts would only increase if it were against the Stealers.

We are all ready at the bottom of the nightmare pit and have been all season.   Fairly or unfairly everything accomplished by this team has always been judged against primetime and what it does in the playoffs.

The biggest gain for the Bengals would be beating a media darling like the Stealers in the playoffs.     The Bengals winning in the playoffs period would earn them respect but you would get a bigger jump from beating the Stealers.

the guy speaks the truth . until we win one or two games in the playoffs , that's what every non bengals fan thinks .

What you're missing is that his team has choked the two times they've gone since he's been there. Fucking Tebow beat them! He probably goes around telling people that they're fat too.

lol,  he's been in the league since 2011.   He watched Tim Tebow toss him out of the playoffs.    He watched Dalton toss them out of the play hunt in 2012.   2013 they started 0 and whatever.   2014 - The were tossed out of the playoffs at home by the dreaded Ravens.

Here's the thing on that Mr. Gilbert. Your team played us without our starting qb, one of the best tight ends in the game (knocked from the game by yet another cheap shot), and half of our secondary injured. Your offense managed 2 legitimate touchdowns I think? The other points came off of turnovers by a young qb making his first start and the only other points you got were field goals.

Do the math. A healthy team would have beaten you on Sunday. Soundly. You gave up a 90+ passer rating and two touchdowns to a qb that had never seen meaningful game action.

You want us in January? Bring it.

Not to mention that the Bengals actually outgained the Stealers 385 - 354 yds. They both had the same number of first downs (22). And, this can't be stated enough, the Bengals had their backup fucking quarterback playing nearly the entire game. The difference in the game was (fluke) turnovers, not some dominating performance from the Stealers. Bring it on indeed.

Yeah, it's kinda hard to choke in the playoffs if you don't even make the playoffs.

McCarron threw for more yards than Rapehisberger and didn't play the whole game.

One really. Their 2nd wasn't til end of the game after 2nd McCarron interception. Defense despite being busted up in the secondary bent but didn't break for the most part.
