Browns to interview Paul Guenther Sunday

Vontaze Burfict, Paul GuentherAP

The Bengals coaching staff will be busy Sunday, whether they’re game-planning for another playoff game of not.

According to Ian Rapoport of the NFL Network, Bengals defensive coordinator Paul Guenther will interview with the Browns Sunday, after the Bengals play the Stealers Saturday night.

Bengals coach Marvin Lewis has been willing to give permission to his assistants to interview during the playoffs, though by rule he doesn’t have to since they don’t have a bye week. Offensive coordinator Hue Jackson also has three job interviews Sunday, with the Browns, 49ers and Dolphins.

Guenther, 44, has been the coordinator there for two seasons, taking over for Mike Zimmer. And the success Zimmer has had in Minnesota has doubtess given Guenther’s job prospects a boost, even if it’s subliminal.

I wouldn't let any coaches interview while the team is still in the playoffs. Why add distractions?

Seems like Cleveland just wants to distract our team by interviewing both coordinators ... fuck them!

I also wouldn't let coaches leave for divisional opponents who know all your schemes etc.

The NFL system of coaches is broken, where a team can continually get poached of their coordinators.

In the same way players are expected to fulfill their contracts, so should coaches. And if another team wants an assistant coach, they should have to trade for them with draft picks.

The Vikings and Redskins both are now in the playoffs thanks to getting Bengals coordinators who were under contract, but the Bengals didn't get compensated for that???

Why develop your own coaching talent when you can just steal the Bengals coordinators every year!?! ... pisses me off!

If not trading for coaches, another option would be to give compensatory draft picks to teams ... say a 3rd rder for each coordinator that leaves under contract, and a 5th rder for each positional coach.

I dont disagree with the notion of being compensated BJ.  However, many coaches get plucked each year.  As far as the Bengals go, its a testament to the type of organization they have come that not only their coordinators are sought after, but others(ie vance joseph) currently below those positions, are sought after as well.  There may not be a better run organization over the last 5 years than the Cincinnati Bengals.
