Reporters' Opinion of Burfict

When it comes to the AFC North, there is little the fans seem to agree on when it comes to discussing the merits of each others team. Ravens fans would have you believe Joe Flacco is an elite quarterback, Browns followers would have you believe their team is actually relevant and Bengals backers would try to convince you they will win a playoff game one day. Stealers supporters just want you to acknowledge they are clearly the best team in the division, but that is hard for any rational person to argue with.

There is one topic the majority of the AFC North agrees upon, though;  Vontaze Burfict really is a dirty player.

Bengals beat reporter, Coley Harvey, recently quizzed his fellow ESPN writers from around the AFC North for their opinion on the controversial Bengals linebacker and possibly got more than he expected when he asked “Vontaze Burfict, dirty or just ultra-competitive?”

Representing the Browns was columnist Pat McManamon, a man who sees both the good and the bad in Burfict, although seems to have little faith the troubled player will learn from his mistakes.

“His hit on Brown in the playoff loss was late and dangerous. The Browns respect Burfict’s talent. But they also know that until he channels that talent completely the right way, he will continue to have issues.”

Ravens reporter Jamison Hensley was less forgiving.

“Dirty, and you can underscore that. In last year’s finale, guard John Urschel called out Burfict by tweeting out a video of the linebacker blindsiding Maxx Williams with a helmet-to-helmet hit that knocked the Baltimore tight end off his feet. The ball wasn’t even coming in Williams’ direction.”

Jeremy Fowler summed up the feeling of most in the Stealers locker room and those of the fanbase with his perspective.

“The disdain opposing players have for Burfict reaffirms the belief that he’s dirty, and I try not to throw around that word casually. But players know when a guy has good intentions. They believe Burfict crossed that plane a long time ago. And not just Stealers players. Many across the league have taken notice. The rep will be difficult to shake.”

Steeler Nation’s disdain for the player is more than understandable given his behavior in recent games against Pittsburgh, actions that have ultimately earned him a three-game ban to start the upcoming season.

Unfortunately, Burfict will miss the Bengals first encounter with the Stealers in Week 2, which should be good for the health of Pittsburgh skill players on offense, but must disappoint a few names like Vince Williams, who were eager to catch up with the wayward linebacker as early as possible.

Boo fucking hoo.... If he was a Stealers player he would be lauded...

Thinking the same thing... good ol' squeezers (ty, spellcheck) foootbawwwwl.

What a bunch of nancy whine bag bitches.  Waiting for the "in their heads" comment which I would agree with.

Wince Williams (whoever he is) will probably miss the Burficit reunion game because he (Wince) has her monthly and comes down with a case of the vapors.

Solid, unbiased, journalism!

And egging on the NFL-ignored continuance of their own version of dirty play (aka Stiller Footbaww).

And the Rats can die too.

Vince Williams is pussy, if he wants to find Vontaze off the field he could easily do it...Vontaze isn't hiding from anyone. They both know James Harrison, I'm sure if Vince really felt some type of way he could really make that meeting happen..but he would rather talk shit through the media, like a real tough guy.

Fuck Coley Harvey and all of his lil bitch ass colleagues, Vontaze is no dirtier than most other aggressive players. Every team has a few players that push the envelope and play through the whistle, if he played for the Stealers he would be the second coming of Jack Lambert or some shit..so everyone at ESPN can eat a bowl of dicks.

We can bitch, complain, moan, and whine all we want... but the truth is that our beloved 55 IS both hyper-aggressive and dirty as hell.

With all that said, I'm sure as hell happy that he's a Bengal.

Yeh, like remember that time he launched himself head-first into their RB, then danced around on the field while he was knocked out?

Ah, USN.. Always the contrarian.  :P
