I am all for helping out the poor. What is the saying about give a man a fish vs. teach a man to fish. I think that welfare is very very important in our society. For some (single mothers for instance) it is a necessity but for many others we should be giving technical training so they can get jobs. While I don't think that college is for everyone nor should it be funded as such, training specific trades should be funded and provided to anyone. Especially those that are on welfare.

As far as my last statement, your right and I must have been having a bad night... Either way I do miss the old give and take this forum used to be and it seems like that is long over. I can't blame anyone but myself though because I was one of the voices to the right of most of you and I don't contribute anymore. But even still, it seems like there is usually one opinion and others just pile on for anyone not in that opinion.

This country was founded as colonies and eventually states because there are differences of opinion and laws should be made by the will of the people. Otherwise why have states? The biggest issue with abortion is it being forced upon the half of the country that believe it is wrong.

Helping out the poor of our country is a lot higher on my list of priorities than helping out the rich.

I don't hear anyone from the right bitching about all the money rich people get in tax breaks and shady dealings.

That's because they help put the people in power with $$$ and the poor don't.

The GoP wants everyone to be "self sustaining" but acts like people are asking for welfare when they want a living wage.

Let someone that makes minimum wage ask for the wages to be raised to $15 an hour and "OMFG WTF BBQ!!! You don't deserve that much for doing THAT!!!"

If someone works they shouldn't have to struggle so hard. I mean work = self sustain, right?

My opinions are my own. And I value them because I have put a lot of energy educating myself while forming my opinions.

You might want to check again, because the majority of this country is Pro-Choice.

Also Rick, just because something is legal does not mean it is being forced upon you. Don't like it? Don't do it.

And some things should not be up to states to decide.

Like Gay marriage and abortion. I mean some states thought it was a great idea to own other people. Some shit should never be up for vote.

Please cite me one example of an abortion being forced on anyone.  Being allowed to do something is not even close to the same thing as being forced.

Pile on the guy who misspoke right? The LAW is being forced upon all of us. Not sure how you guys read my post though and came to the conclusion that I thought woman were being forced to have abortions but whatever. Also sorry I didn't realize that the "pro-choice" movement is winning by a point... I guess I need to work a little harder to get my message out right? <sarcasm>

Why all the mentions of the GOP? I am not part of the Good ole' party, nor have I been for a long time. I am certainly not a democrat either so does that make me a hard right winger or something? 8 years of Democratic law and what has Obama done to help the poor. NOTHING! And guess what, doubt Trump will either. System is rigged and we are always focusing on these out-liner issues (me included) we get nowhere.

Either way, I do care about the poor, I do want there to be a safety net but we should be focusing on education and ways to get people off of things like welfare. Kind of like preventative health care, instead of treating the problem (welfare) we also need to treat why it is a problem (education and lack of skill sets). If you guys can't agree to that, then I guess we can keep going back and forth about issues that really don't matter. Roe v. wade isn't going to be repealed. It has been and will continue to be the rule of the land.

Old, my opinions are also my own and I also try to educate myself about what I believe. I started my original post stating that I have many beliefs that hit each part of the political spectrum. For one, I think that Trump is completely wrong about immigration. While I believe in strong borders, kicking out all the immigrants is immoral but it would also completely destroy our moral fabric and economy. Stupid, stupid talk and way for him to stroke the ego's of people that do believe that so he could get elected. I might not agree with a lot of the stuff you are saying, but I still respect the fact that you say them and I believe that you believe them. Same with all of you, much respect and I wish I could spend time on here and go back and forth like I used to... It isn't in the cards though.

Sorry all for the rants, abortion is a topic that riles me up...

I agree with you Rick. Obama was a coward who bent on pressure from his political donors and bailed them out instead of bailing out the people. It's why Dems lost so big in the mid-terms and why they lost this election.

Well I should qualify that...some of that was his political donors....alot of it was from the "omg the socialismzzzzzzz" crowd

The latest statistics I saw said 44% consider themselves Pro-Life. (no sarcasm)

Why is it so hard  to accept that you can be against something, others can legally do it and it's not forced on you?

Again, if you're against it let it be known. Teach it to your children and future generations of your family. But make it illegal?

To me that is just arrogant and wrong. You think if you make it illegal it will just stop? Hell, isn't that why it became legal in the first place?

The majority of Americans, even Pro-Choice agree that abortions shouldn't be performed past 20 weeks unless it is threatening the life of the mother.

Accept it. Embrace it. Focus on societies ills, instead of wanting more people, probably more poor, uneducated people, to add to those ills.

I don't know why that is so fucking hard for some people? If someone makes a choice to have an abortion. That is on them.

You want no hand in raising that child, paying their bills or anything like that. So what the fuck's it to you? Seriously?

Hell the people that claim to be against abortion the most are against birth control, welfare and education. Well you (they) can't have that shit both ways.

Sorry. You (they) just can't.

And just so you know theses words aren't directed towards you personally Rick. They are directed towards the topic at hand.

8 years of Democratic law got you nothing huh? Hahaha. Probably because there was a bunch of obstructionist hell bent on doing nothing.

They broke the fucking system and now that they have an asshole in charge, that they all tried to shun by the way, they want to "fix it".

Seriously were you not paying attention to  that do-fucking-nothing Congress and all of their bullshit? I know I sure have been. And

yeah both parties are less than ideal. But the right wing system seems to have all of the people that think they're better than others (racists, misogynist, xenophobes ect)

They act like if you care about your fellow Americans (you know we are all on the same team?)

You're a "bleeding heart" a "snowflake" and shit like that.

They also have more than their fair share of dirty players and all around slimeballs.

But that's a different subject all together.

It's all good Rick. Hope life is treating you well.

Republicans pass bill to bar insurance coverage for abortion

Politics  1 hour ago
On Tuesday, the majority-GOP House of Representatives passed H.R. 7, which bars women from using health insurance to pay for abortion. It also makes the Hyde amendment permanent.

Don't want an abortion?

Don't have sex... solves the argument.

Pro-lifers happy, pro-choice happy.

No one having unwanted babies, and foster homes not filling up.

Second to that - contraception - people have been humping since there have been people... make contraception more widespread and affordable.

Widespread and affordable?

Seriously?

Condoms are readily available and cheap as hell, and if a woman DECIDES to be sexually active, she is responsible for purchasing a deterrent if she wants it.

$50 - $400 (the going rate average for birth control pills) a month is a helluva lot cheaper than raising a kid.

It's simple... you want to screw, YOU are responsible for paying the cost of your birth control.

There is no reason in hell anyone should have to pay for another persons lack of responsible behavior.

For me, it plays right in to the "my body, my choice" for women. If it's your body and your choice to what you want do with it... then you're also solely responsible for your birth control.

The men in their lives should bear the cost of anything that happens, because they are just as responsible if a woman gets pregnant.

True, condoms are cheap - and free if you go to the health organizations, but the high schoolers working there that give them out have a tendency to be 'funny' and poke holes in them. Plus, dudes just won't wear them. The not-so-smart ones anyway.

ANd the women get free birth control now so that's g - oh wait, the conservatives cut that out?

Well, at least they can go to Planned Parenthood and get discounted OBGYN care and birth con- what you mean they are trying to defund that too?

The idea that people are not gonna ball is naive and ridiculous, mang. I know you were being baseline factual, and people don't like abortion and people aren't going to stop having sex, so...
