Bodine wasn't great or anything. An 80 grade is what they consider a solid starter and he came in below that. But he wasn't too far away and graded a lot higher in the second half of the season.

I think he's on the path to being an average starter next year. Nothing to write home about but you aren't going to have 22 above average starters. There's at least a half dozen positions that are bigger concerns IMO.

The scary position is OT and you can see why Whit is the main priority. Here are the Bengals grades at OT (Bodine's 78 looks pretty good in comparison):

2 Andrew Whitworth CIN 77 91.3   92.5 81.3 1064 637 413 Active
70 Cedric Ogbuehi CIN 70 39.4   35.5 55.9 680 425 245 Active
- Eric Winston CIN 73 59.5   50.3 70.5 279 153 124 Active
- Jake Fisher CIN 74 43.5   42.5 52.7 300 145 151 Active

Fisher showed some flashes the last couple weeks, but we need to have a realistic Plan B in place that's better than Eric Winston. Ogbuehi was a complete disaster.

So, we have a line that gave up 40+ sacks, was one of the worst in the league in getting their RBs to the second level, and they were below league average on 3rd-4th and 2 or less situations.

Whit looks like he's coming back. Zeitler looks like he's going to be gone. Bodine and Ogbuehi still look to be starters and we will likely have a hole to fill at RG.

I think the team really needs to get Dre Kirkpatrick signed to a long term deal and then spend a large portion of the offseason focusing on the o-line. After looking at many statistical categories and holes in the roster, I don't see anything nearly as glaring as the line with the exception of LBs, but it seems like as Bengals fans we have to have this LB conversation every damn year.

Thanks happyrid. I won't quote it so it takes up a bunch of space but that's great. Definitely worth it. It says 249 a month on their website.

It's $249 for their in depth statistics, which are great!

Their grades, meh, they're much, much more subjective and definitely have some flaws. I wouldn't quote them as gospel because quite honestly, it would be like using Madden ratings in a discussion/argument. The guys on top of the list definitely had a good season and the guys on the bottom almost always performed poorly, but there's a lot to be said about everything in between and the exact rankings aren't the best way to judge Player A being better than Player B.

OT for this tracker...but I see where the Stealers re-signed James Harrison, 2yrs $3.5 million. Seems like forever since he was here. I don't recall why he was never brought back after that brief stay? So much for "old player at the end of career".

He didn't seem to fit our defensive scheme very well. He's been great in Shitsburgh as a 3-4 OLB that plays around 50% of the snaps and can rush the passer, but didn't make a huge impact as our 4-3 SLB. He was solid against the run while he was here though.

Dude was collecting a check. And the Bengals actually cut him... His deal didn't just expire.

I think his "I don't participate in Defensive meetings" attitude seemed cute at first, but the truth is that he never really learned the defense.

The official line is that he didn't fit our scheme... But that's total horse-hockey. He didn't want to fit our scheme. He wanted our scheme to fit him.

There are a lot of players who weren't as successful in different defensive schemes over the course of their careers.

For someone claiming that it's a total bullshit statement that he didn't fit our scheme, you seem very set on the "truth" being that he didn't learn our defense. Do you have anything to support that?

Nope, just my theory. And Hard Knocks...

Alrighty, just wondering because I think it's hard to tell which way it goes just by watching all of the games.

I figured he didn't fit the defense here because he looked out of place and didn't produce as a 4-3 SLB as he does in Pittsburgh both before his stint in Cincy AND after he left, so it's not like he was washed up or anything. Looking out of place could easily be because of your assessment, or just because he didn't fit what we were trying to do very well. If there's anything specific that points to him refusing to actually learn the defense, I would like to see it and figured you may have had some examples because you seem pretty set on it being that he didn't learn the defense. For the record, I chose to not watch Hard Knocks, so I'm not really sure of much that happened on there outside of seeing people talking about specific things about each episode on social media.

Any other names to add to the top

I'd say basically any player that gets cut has a higher chance to be on the Bengals than any of the names that weren't. Darrelle Revis might be old and washed up enough to be in stripes depending on his salary demands.

Well, you can look up clips on YouTube. Long story short, he didn't listen to coaches, didn't participate in meetings, basically thought he was bigger than the team. In the pre-season, that's cute and all, but when you do nothing all year... Yeah.

I'm going to pass this on as absolute bullshit, but here it is:

"Word is that the Cincinnati Bengals could use the money they won’t be spending on Kevin Zeitler on a big-name cornerback. The belief is that Logan Ryan will be the player they target if he does not re-sign with the Patriots, though the market for the cornerback will be competitive and expensive."

That money is actually going to be spent on Dre Kirkpatrick, but I suppose there is that .1% chance they look at Logan Ryan.

maybe they'd rather have Ryan than Kirkpatrick?

Maybe the Bengals would rather have an outside free agent rather than a player they're familiar with? That sounds pretty fuckin' crazy to me LOL

To be perfectly honest though, I hope that's not the plan because Dre actually ranked higher in most advanced metrics in 2016. He has turned into a very nice CB for us and he's the homegrown type that the Bengals usually like. I started off super hyped for Dre Kirk when he was drafted, then I spent a couple of years bitching and moaning about how he's no good and a huge bust, but this past season I've been more than pleased with his play.

Agreed, I think he will only get better, you can't teach long rangy arms.

Give me bouye over ryan if that rumor ia true.

Yeah I think the problem with that is that 32 NFL teams also want Bouye over Ryan.

We aren't winning a bidding war for the #1 player at a position and also one of the hottest UFAs on the market in general. This is the Bengals man. What's the point of living in some fantasy land where discuss obscure transactions that have a 0% chance of happening?
