If you consider Fan Duel betting, yes!

I have a lot of money out there on FanDuel/DraftKings every week.

I bet a little bit every other week or so on player props and game spreads on bovada.

I feel like it's not really "gambling" if you aren't afraid of any repercussions for not showing up at the corner of 3rd and Walnut on Tuesday afternoon when you make some bad picks over the weekend.

Or maybe I'm just old school in that sense (even though I'm relatively young), but I see shit like Fanduel and Draft Kings being less degenerate for some reason even though it's a lot easier to click a button and bet in 50 different games in a matter of minutes.

A good bookie won't let you get so far underwater you can't pay.  It's the old, you can shear a sheep over and over, but you can slaughter him only once.  I'm old and old school, even though I don't bet on football.

Never placed a bet through a book.

Dated a girl for a while who bet heavy on college football through her boookie.  I never bet any money but she would ask me my opinion sometimes.  When I looked at the lines every week it seemed like there were two or three games that would be locks, but it never works out that way.

I believe she had a gambling problem.  She was always talking about going to Vegas because she had casinos out there that were willing to comp her room.   I'd think you would have to lose quite a bit in Vegas before they started giving you a free room to come back.

It's been a few years, but comping rooms isn't that big of a deal.  If you sit at a slot machine for 6 hours or so a day they will likely comp your room.  These guys love slots player, or they did.  Getting rated at table games was a little harder.  Also, they really don't care how much you win or lose.  They get their cut no matter who wins or loses for the most part. The sports book can screw up and lose on big games, but for the most part their lines are damn good.  The vig is what they are after.

Pro football is probably has the best lines of any sport.  So much information is out there and publicly known.  Probably more info on NFL out there than most stocks on the NYSE.  Way too hard to win IMO.

Yeah it was more of a joking way to just say that for some reason I find gambling way more degenerate and just "right" with a bookie. This new fangled Draft King bullshit just ain't for me.

I don't feel like I'm really betting if it's on a computer and isn't through a guy that knows a guy that's a friend of a guy.

It honestly doesn't take a whole lot to get comps at most hotels around the country, and it's even easier to do so in Vegas actually.

They want people who win to put their money back into the casino and they want people that lose to keep losing. They have point systems set up with their memberships to comp people who spend a decent amount of time at their establishment regardless of their winning/losing.

Here in Sin City, one can bet on which style or color shoes a player will wear. Sports Books make the art of gambling unique.

I looked around last year and could not find the odds for the Bengals going undefeated.  Any idea how big they are.

I am not into gambling.  I don't even buy lottery tickets.  But ever since I saw those Leicester City fans cashing in on 5000-to-1 odds I thought I would see how big the odds were for the Bengals going 19-0.

It looks to take studying for certain, Fred.

But, sometimes it truly is just luck. On SB Sunday this year, a fellow sitting next to me at a Casino bar won $12K by betting the game would go into OT. His skill? "I had a feeling".

I didn't answer you question: haven't seen any pre-season lines out there yet. Some books are starting to take bets on weekly games, but individual lines (like odds of going undefeated) I have not seen.

  • 2 weeks later...

I watched a friend of mine lose his house and wife betting on college and pro football.  That would probably be me if I started.

Never even knew he had a problem until the bank foreclosed.

Glad you and spouse made it to Prague safely, my friend. Best to you both.

it just tipped 100 degrees the other day...followed by a day with 40 mph wind gusts. But I made $25 on video 21, after a round of golf!

Viva Las Vegas!

That's the one place where I'd be tempted to go degenerate in a sports book, like on Wild Card weekend or during March Madness. I've heard there are spots that are like a pimped-out Dave & Buster's/Hooters but with good food & massaging lounge chairs.  The person who told me this is also a degenerate gambler so..

If you can get a seat in a sports book in Vegas during Wild Card weekend or March Madness it would be a good time, but those seats are usually reserved for your degenerate gamblers.  Actually, the sports/race book is a good place to spend some time in Vegas.  On a game day you can comfortably hang out, watch some games, make some bets, have a few beverages and at a usually lower cost than playing table games.  Playing table games all day can rip through your bankroll pretty quickly.  (and it gets boring after a while too!)
