Disagree that it's rare at all.

Even if it's unforgivable.. OK.  That's not what Burfict was suspended for.

That's a 5 game suspension to you?  It wasn't even flagged.

Doesn't matter. He's been selected main donor towards their cte lawsuit fund.

You continue to act like these fouls are not cumulative.  Burfict was fined 6 times for every manner of personal foul to include hitting a guy in the nuts and the ankle twists LONG BEFORE he was ever suspended.  Plenty of those fines were for things that the refs did not see during the game.   That is 6 fines BEFORE the NFL finally started to dock him games.   With the number of cameras in every game, the NFL has become very efficient at fining players for the stupid high school shit Burfict tried to pull earlier in his career after the fact.

The fact is  fines have a set minimum value for first and second offense.  http://www.footballzebras.com/2016/08/29/nfl-schedule-of-fines-for-2016-season/

Once you get past that you are at the mercy of the Commissioner.   Here is the list of players who have been suspended.  Plenty of players not named Burfict on this list for poking other players in the eye, helmet to helmet, breaking a teammate's jaw in practice  etc..     Burfict long ago used up his second offense for these types of things so he is pretty much subject to suspension due to the new rules every time he does something wrong.  Same goes with PacMan.

Was the above hit worthy of a 5 (reduced to 3) game fine?  No.  If you take the entire Resume of Burfict into account before passing judgement?  Yes, since that is the authority the players have given Roger Goodell.

Last point:  I have seen Burfict on many occasions ALMOST take a guys head off.   Every game seems to have that one or two hits that were almost knock out blows and would have drawn a huge fine (along with suspensions now).  Some of these types of helmet leading hits have forced Vontaze  himself out of the game.  If he doesn't change his ways, he will either be siting more or out due to injury.

And when he twisted Can Newton's ankle and punched a Packer in the Favres, he got off with fines because he wasn't a repeat offender yet.

So, back to the weed analogy... Dude gets pinched with a gram on him and does 10 years because he has 9 prior convictions. He wasn't even high at the time. Another guy gets pinched with a half an ounce, but he's never been in trouble before so he gets off with probation. I don't even think that we've established that as being unfair in this country, much less corrupt. In fact, we've pretty much said that kind of justice IS fair.

Burfict has a staggering, record breaking number of fines. You can't compare him to any other player in the league.

I realize I'm not going to change your mind... You're tailgating on the tinfoil bus. Everything is a conspiracy out to get you. The league is out to get us every time there's a holding call. The NFL is no better than the WWE. So, ummmm, OK.

Also, I'm not sure why you guys defending the decision are totally disregarding Marvin's defense against it. Obviously Marvin knows all if tezs past transgressions as well. He may be a lot of things to you guys but he is certainly a man of high character and he presented a legitimate argument.

I haven't been here for about 10 pages. Did you guys figure out if he deserved it or not?

We've determined that Goodell is a shape shifting lizard person who drinks the blood of chihuahuas, runs a sex slave ring out of a Casino's pizza in Centerville, and hates Burfict and Mike Brown because they are the only men who can stand in the way of his plan for world domination.

He's also a coach without a contract extension who needs to win some games.

A legitimate argument that is discounted because he has a huge interest in keeping him on the field.  His "he's changed" point is pointless.  The argument did get the suspension reduced to 3 games.

Never mind that.  The NFL keeps suspending him so he deserves to be suspended as a repeat offender.

It took 12 pages to figure that out? You guys are slipping.

The "he's changed" argument is pointless only if he hasn't changed. The arbitrator specified the hit as being "from the side or back" (and thus against the new rules), while the video clearly shows shoulder pads into the numbers...the FRONT numbers.  This is nothing more than punishment for past transgressions...for which he has already been punished.

Burfect's past behavior has certainly earned the close scrutiny of the league, but this punishment is a miscarriage of justice.

Has he changed?  I hope so, but I don't yet know.  What I do know is that hit for which he is being punished is NOT proof that he has not changed.

I thought Burfict toned it down last year and played well after the Patriots game.  The fine and suspension this year is very questionable and if it had been Nick Vigil it probably would have been a small fine at worse.  Burfict is a marked man fair or not.

I agree that Burfict was a dirty player early in his career, and he still skirts the border of the rules (the Antonio Brown hit) fairly recently but I have to agree that this current suspension is bullshit, and it really hurts our defense. He's our best defensive player by a longshot.

I think every real or perceived transgression should be judged as a single event and not be colored by past events, which is what's happening here. Whenever the next NFLPA contract gets done, they need to remove Goodell as judge, jury and executioner. They need a panel of independent judges to decide these things. The NFLPA should select a few, and then Goodell can select some. Make it the NFL Supreme Court.
