Bengals WR John Ross suffers knee sprain, Week 1 vs. Ravens in doubt

While the Baltimore Ravens and their nemesis Cincinnati Bengals are set to battle in Week 1, Cincinnati could be without a key player on offense. Bengals’ rookie wide receiver John Ross could miss the regular season opener as he suffered a knee sprain, which took him out of Cincinnati’s preseason finale matchup against the Indianapolis Colts.

Though a knee sprain can very well mean a lot of things, Dr. Selene Parekh provided a little context on just how long Ross could be out. It’s far from definite, but it certainly helps cast some doubt on Ross’ availability in the first game.

If what Dr. Parekh said is true, Ross and the Bengals could have more issues than Week 1. After squaring off against Baltimore to open the season, Cincinnati faces the Houston Texans, Green Bay Packers and the Cleveland Browns from Weeks 2-4. Not having their first-round selection in the lineup for several weeks could be a big blow for their offense as the Bengals try and hold themselves together early in the season.

Baltimore has done a lot to improve their secondary in the offseason adding Tony Jefferson and Brandon Carr in free agency while selecting Marlon Humphrey in the first round of the 2017 NFL draft. Not to mention undrafted rookie Jaylen Hill has been the best cornerback for Baltimore during the preseason. This could be bad news for Cincinnati’s passing game on offense.

Ross isn’t the only one that would miss time for Cincinnati. Linebacker Vontaze Burfict recently had his five-game suspension brought down to only three weeks, while cornerback Adam Jones is suspended for the first week. If Ross can’t suit up after all, it would be three major names missing a pretty important division game.
