fredtoast
At Alabama Gillberry led the team in sacks and tackles-for-loss three times and in '07 finished 3rd in the nation with 27 tackles for loss. He was First Team All-SEC and finished 2nd in school history (behind only Derrick Thomas) in career tackles-for-loss (60.5). The Bengals ranked in the top 8 in scoring defense 4 of the 5 season ('12-'16) Gilberry was here, and never ranked lower than 12th. Gilberry led the Bengals in fumble recoveries (3) in 2012, and tied for team lead in sacks in in '13 (7.5). Gilberry's 7 sacks for the 2010 Chiefs helped them improve their scoring defense from 29th to 11th and make the playoffs. Michael Johnson only has one NFL season with more than 6 sacks. Gilberry has 3. In '12 and '13 Gilberry had more sacks (14) than Carlos Dunlap (13.5).
Rick
I like Gillberry a lot. I am not too crazy about his hair styles.
fredtoast
BTW, this is not any sort of protest aginst us releasing Gilberry. It is just a "good bye" thread to a solid man/player. Also he could be back later if we have injuruies.
Cat
I've said it before - but I met him once - he was super nice to me.
Rumble In the Jungle
Not sure why they keep doing this with him. We play way better when he's on our defense than when he's not.
fluhartz
Just now, Rumble In the Jungle said: Not sure why they keep doing this with him. UncleEarl
Like someone else inferred, we have cut Gilberry before. Most likely he will be available if the Bengals need him. The right move.
|westside bengal|
Johnson and Dunlap are both free agents after 2018. Carlos will be looking for one last big contract from someone. Maybe the Bengals...maybe not? Who knows about MJ? Looking at possible replacements for down the road.
