This was supposed to be about interesting matchups between two bad teams. With a combined record of 6-12, the Bengals and Broncos might both be better off losing this game on Sunday. Even if the season is over, the evaluation process is ongoing. These are the players to watch for the Cincinnati Bengals this weekend.

John Ross might be the most polarizing offensive player for the Bengals right now and he’s yet to catch a pass. Last week, he got an early opportunity on a deep ball, but Ross didn’t read the defense correctly and pulled back on his route thinking the ball wasn’t going his way. A simple mistake that Marvin Lewis couldn’t let go, but something worth keeping an eye on. If Ross is going to make an impact in this offense, he needs to be trusted to run the right route when the defense gives the opportunity. Let’s watch to see if Ross improves in this aspect and if the Bengals help get the ball into his hands to create a spark.

Andrew Billings has seen more time in the past two games than he has all season and he’s flashed on tape as much as anybody on this defense. His raw power is unmatched and his ability to blow up offensive lineman as a run defender has been something exciting to watch. When he stays low and explodes out of his stance, watch as he extends his arms, locks his elbows and walks opposing blockers into the backfield.

William Jackson should get another start this season as Adam Jones will miss the game with a concussion. Overall, Jackson has been stellar in his second season. He looks like a true top corner and the entire defense is better when he’s on the field. After leaving last week’s game with a toe injury, let’s see how that affects his game this weekend.

Lastly, I’m keeping an eye on Tyler Kroft. He’s been one of the few bright spots on offense this season but wasn’t featured much last week. Dalton missed Kroft on a potentially huge play early in the game and you could see Kroft’s frustration afterward. I’m looking for a bounce-back performance and continued growth. Kroft might be somebody that’s developing into a starter if Tyler Eifert isn’t with the team next season.
