Ross Concealed Injury

Stinks of us making a bad draft choice on an injured player, and having a crap medical staff. Heck, every player should be trying to hide his injury before draft day, that's why you have team doctors look them over.

How many teams have a #1 RB "surprise" them by having season ending surgery out of the blue? That Jeremy Hill conned us into taking him knowing he'd need surgery 5 years later!

If it's a choice between the Bengals being incompetent and John Ross intentionally "conning" the Bengals into drafting him and thinking he's healthy, Occam's razor points to the Bengals.

Have to agree, not sure why the team would look to a 22 year old player with millions of dollars worth of salary in the balance for a candid medical evaluation.  It's called due diligence.  It's the team's responsibility to look past his 40 time.  Ross didn't draft himself 9th overall.  Trying to throw him under the bus now that the season is all but over is just another example of the lack of accountability that defines this franchise.

I find it hard to believe that every team would be allowed to do a medical exam on a potential draftee.  Doesn't the NFL do this for the entire league?

As far as Ross himself....He does bear some responsibility.  We're talking about a guy who appears to be a poor practice player, may have trouble with the playbook, and hides injuries.  Sounds like a spoiled kid.  He needs to grow up.  The NFL is for men, not boys.

More like every team has the right to ask. It's part of the pre-draft workouts that teams do. You can also have your medical staff review the records for any pick without subjecting any player to a one-on-one exam. Doctors don't generally lie on their medical reports. They would access to X-rays, etc...

So a player might refuse to allow a team doctor or specialist to evaluate them when they come in for a pre-draft workout, but that is very rare and would be a big red flag.

I have read that sometimes the medical examinations at the combine are more importrant to teams than the workouts.  A player that has an injury issue will be poked and prodded and examined by every team interested in him.  All of these teams will demand medical records like x-rays and scans of the injury.

The fact is that injuries are hard to predict.  I think Anthony Munoz had three knee surgeies in college while Chris Perry never had a major injury until he got in the NFL.

The NFL must be laughing at us. All of our first picks lately have been disasters. That is one reason why free agents don’t want to sign with us.

WTF?

Jackson

Dennard

Eifert

Kirkpatrick

Zeitler

Green

All good picks.

Plus, the only reason we don't sign top free agents is because we won't offer them the money they want.  It is not like we are offering big contracts and free agents are turning them down.

I think this is a better indicator of how well a guy will play in the pros given he has the athletic ability.  Not saying Ross had character issues but you better be sure when picking single digits.
