Jason
If we are going to spend the money it would take to land Ansah in FA, I'd rather spend it on an O-lineman. I'm content with our DEs. I might be interested in Whitehead though.
omgdrdoom
Whitehead is the only guy even worth looking at. Is Haloti Ngata old and washed up (cheap) enough to play here yet? Seems like the name recognition would fit right in with James Harrison, AJ Hawk, Kevin Minter, etc. signings except Ngata isn't a LB unfortunately. MichaelWeston
I am a big fan of bringing in a vet at every unit. Not necessarily a star or even one that will even make the team, but I believe more veterans mean greater depth. For instance, just because you sign Torrey Smith doesn't mean he has to make the team. And even if he doesn't he can serve as an off the roster depth because he knows the system. This type of fringe roster guys are plentiful on the group that Bicknell coached with SF in 2016. I mean, you said Kevin Minter, but I think you probably meant Karlos Dansby. (Minter is only 27).

Yep I knew I was missing someone so I threw Minter in since he just wasn't good last year. We have a weird fascination with getting LBs that play well right up until we sign them. A years-out-of-prime Ngata seems like a perfect Bengals signing though.

Our NT doesn't play that much and he actually was ok last year I think. Lets say he replaces Pat Sims. That's just 26% of snaps. Wouldn't surprise me at all if we bring him in for that. If he doesn't come much cheaper then there's no way he comes here, but I could see it if he wants to play for Austin and wants to be on a good defense again to take a discount. Yep, this is actually how I view most of these guys. I would then just wait on Ngata, Worrilow, Bellore, Tavon Wilson, Lawson and Hayden. If the music stops and they don't have a partner they would all provide good depth for the offseason and maybe beyond. I would make Whitehead a priority. Solid but not special starter who can play MLB and knows the defense. Doesn't often happen that you can get both the DC and his best LB. I would not overpay if the market dictates it because I am not sure how good he is. Is he better at WLB or MLB? http://www.mlive.com/lions/index.ssf/2018/01/lions_lose_a_third_coach_in_de.html I would sign Kerley now to a deal with zero bonus. He had his best year with our WRs coach and Dalton was his college QB. It makes too much sense. The only thing that I could see keeping us from it would be if Kerley is a locker room issue. As a replacement for Ron Leary (who signed w/Denver), he played pretty well as a replacement. He's a former #1 pick who has bounced around the league some. I'd like them to do better than this guy, but he's IMO he's better than Tre Hopkins at the very least.
