I am telling you the NUMBER ONE need for the 2018 Bengals is...

Being able to make halftime changes in the locker room! If Marvin can figure this out, we make the playoffs! I suggest Marvin hires a special coach just for halftime changes.

Would hope from improvement spurred by Lazor & Austin as opposed to Magic Marv suddenly "seeing the light."

I don't think it's not making any changes that's the problem, it's making the wrong changes at times that's the problem.

For example, there was 1 game this year that stands out in particular where we saw a ton of press man coverage, stunts, and some disguised blitz packages in the first half from our defense and we were winning the game quite handily at the half. Then we go into these soft zones in the second half with a vanilla defense for most of the 3rd and 4th quarter until it's too late. The offense could only move the ball on one possession where we got fucked by some penalties, but if we'd have stuck with a somewhat aggressive defense for another quarter or so we'd have likely beaten the Stealers the 2nd time we met this season.

We need a line...I think we all agree Andy isn't going anywhere this season...he cannot play when he is pressured, so we need a line that can give him a little bit of time.  If he has a decent line, we are back in the playoffs.  We  probably won't win a playoff game, but we are back in them.  It's hard to win clutch games when your QB throws the ball away on 3rd and 8's because the pocket breaks down.

Don’t wait until halftime. Make constant adjustments as the game goes on. Marvin needs to coach better period.

When is is the last time we beat a more talented team because we out coached them?

A lot longer since we lost to a less talented team because we got out coached.

and what is the purpose of playing soft zone defense ever? Never understood when a db is shutting a guy down, then suddenly starts lining up 12 yards off him. Unless you're up big with a minute left and trying to avoid injury, it seems pointless.

Which we never are.

And let him do the first half also.

Not to take any blame away from the coaching but being able to consistently run the ball effectively would go a long way towards protecting leads late in games.   In fact to bring it back to the sideline, this team gets scared out of calling runs very easily.

From what I understand it's up to the coordinators to make halftime adjustments.  They get a few minutes of direction from the HC at halftime, but ultimately it's up to the coordinators to make changes in-game and halftime while the HC manages in game failures.

YES! That's really it, and I don't understand it nor do I know whom the directives are coming from that make this happen. It's the most singular failure that I can point to that impacts our second half collapses. Granted, once we've posted a decent lead on a team before the half, their focus becomes stopping the run at all costs because it eats clock. I get it.

But the Bengals singularly fail to adjust to this, ahem, adjustment. If I see another second and 10 run up the middle for a one yard gain in the second half of a game where we have a sizeable lead, and we just took some ill-constructed, doomed to fail shot downfield on 1st and 10, I will scream. I just don't get it. We are as predictable as Big Ben (the clock, not the rapist).
