Four Bengals Who Could Steal Roster Spots

Final cuts are going to be a serious hurdle for the Cincinnati Bengals in 2018.

The Bengals had a talented roster last year before a series of moves this offseason, which included trading for a left tackle, making 11 draft picks and adding even more undrafted free agents.

Ahead of training camp, these are the four versatile or downright talented players who could unexpectedly steal a roster spot.

Kent Perkins

An undrafted free agent in 2017 who’s not a recognizable name isn’t the first guy to come to mind.

Yet, here is Perkins, an offensive tackle who apparently “has fans in the building,” as we’ve noted in the past.

Versatility could be the name of the game with Perkins here, as he had experience at both tackle spots in college. He’s also massive at 6-foot-5 and 320 pounds, so if he responds well to Frank Pollack’s new ways, he could push a bigger name off the roster.

Chris Worley

Speaking of guys with fans in the building, the Bengals did a ton of work on Ohio State linebacker Chris Worley leading up to the draft.

Now he’s in town as an undrafted free agent and says he specifically chose the Bengals because he wants to make the final roster.

He might just do it, too, thanks to the season-opening suspension of Vontaze Burfict. A linebacker with great coverage skills might just convince the Bengals to keep him around a long time.

Quinton Flowers

Every Bengals fan seems to know Flowers by now.

The prestigious collegiate quarterback will play running back in the NFL. Funnily enough, his route to a final roster spot could be through the quarterback position anyway. As we wrote recently, the Bengals don’t like keeping three quarterbacks. Flowers could technically roster at running back but serve as a third quarterback if necessary.

Auden Tate

Tate is the biggest winner of the offseason so far.

Tate has A.J. Green calling him a “young Brandon Marshall” and his highlights are truly must-see material.

He’s got a 6-5, 228-pound frame, so the ability to help out Andy Dalton by going up and getting tough catches is an asset Bengals coaches will love.

While Tate is fighting at one of the deepest positions on the roster, he’s inching toward securing himself a spot.

Perkins .... Practice squad if still eligible.  First guy up when Fisher has a heart attack.

Worley ... There until Burfict comes back then a decision made to keep him or move him to the practice squad and on speed dial if someone gets a boo boo.  Or Burfict gets suspended again.

Flowers ... Not impossible considering he can be a quarterback, running back and probably a receiver.  Not sure about how Lazor feels about gadget plays like the wildcat, etc. but this guy could probably pull that off.  And Logan Woodside's DUI may have taken him out of any sort of consideration for the team beyond practice squad, if that.

Tate ... Tate > Core.  He's here.
