Tyler Eifert sounds ready to go for Bengals training camp

Recommended Posts

Tyler Eifert’s sixth season with the Cincinnati Bengals got off to a false start at OTAs.

Eifert, who only played in two games last year, suffered some sort ofsmall setback at OTAs and was held out, with Marvin Lewis unsure of his availability for training camp.

Ahead of training camp, he took to social media and sang a more positive tune:

Back in Cincinnati for training camp and feeling great! Camp is a grind but I’m looking forward to it!

The Bengals hit Eifert with a one-year extension this offseason after his multiple surgeries and an endorsement from his doctor. Bringing him along slow was always the plan, though the setback earlier this offseason perhaps wasn’t part of it.

Either way, the Bengals could use Eifert on the field fully next season as they attempt a rebound. He’s scored 18 touchdowns over the past three seasons, which is impressive considering he’s only played in 10 total games over the past two seasons.

For now, Eifert’s name coming up in a headline is good news. If fortune smiles on the Bengals, it’ll stay that way until the regular season begins.

They could always just keep saying Eifert is hurt and play Kroft anyway. Kroft played well last year. He had what, like 8 TD's last season or something like that? That's pretty good all things considered (shit oline, role player, unprotected Dalton).

Plus the added bonus of not holding your breath every time he makes contact.   I thought Kroft had earned the spot & we'd moved on.   Why can't Redeemer just write Eifert a check if he's trying to earn Good Boy Points & leave the roster moves to someone with a clue...

My guess is this was Marvin's call.  A desperate swing for the fences move by a coach who has become a laughingstock.

You think? He doesn't strike me as the sentimental type & objectively there's not much other reason to keep Eifert around.   Of course we'll probably never know.

Wish they were this hyped & focused on Kroft since he's the one likely to be playing. Feel like every snap Eifert gets will be at his expense & that's dumb

A healthy Eifert is substantially a bigger weapon for this team than Kroft.  And any good team has two good TE's.

When was the last time we saw a healthy Eifert? I see no reason why he'd be part of their plans years later. Kroft has produced every time his number gets called  Point being I think we should concentrate more on how things are rather than how we wish they were.

Absolutely true. All we can do is hope he stays healthy for a full season. Eifert opens up everything on the offense because the safeties and coverage backers are quaking in their boots as to shadowing him.

2015. We may see that Eifert again, chances are fairly decent we won't hence the one year deal, which is why having Kroft (and to a lesser degree, Uzomah, whom I also happen to think is solid in a possession role) is such an added bonus. Having a healthy three headed monster at the TE position makes the wideouts and Mixon's job a hell of a lot easier.

Ok, sure it'd be great if, but I have a hard time believing any NFL safety is quaking in their anything over Tyler Eifert in 2018, unless it's with fits of laughter.  My only concern with Eifert would be getting some on me when I casually shoulder-check him to IR the first time he steps on the field.  I don't think anyone's scared of the Bengals offense outside of AJ Green & it shows.  Again, it'd be great if somebody could make them pay for it, but  Eifert is about the last person I'd be counting on to do that.

TBH I'd be a lot less vocal about it if the team would just STFU about him until he surprises us.  How cool would that be, like "Holy Shit was that Eifert on the TD?" That'd be awesome!  The way they keep talking him up, though, makes me wonder who they are trying to convince & I am confused by anyone buying another box of Tyler Crunch.  Eat your Cheerios & be glad you're not hungry.  #Kroft>Eifert

I'm gonna be cautiously optimistic:   I want Eifert to be healthy for at least the regular season, but I hope that Kroft and Uzomah are ready to take their spots if Eifert steps down again.   We need something like what the Patriots and Eagles do:  TEs that are significant threats.  if the defense are worried about openings in the middle, that opens up things for Mixon, AJ, and others,  which could open up more space for the TEs.

Right now Eifert is really in 'Show Me' mode, but I'm glad that he's saying he's ready...

Eifert is always 100% healthy, until he isn't.  I don't believe a word coming out of his mouth and anything he gives the Bengals this year is a bonus.  My expectations are zero with him.  At best, he will be a 3rd down and red zone specialist, IMO.

If he can give us that for 14+ games I’ll be content.

Wonder how much they owe him if he doesn't make the roster?  My guess is they'd carry him on the PUP.

It depends on how the contract was put together.  $3mil signing bonus but my guess is there is a bailout clause if he isn't physically able to even make camp.  They could simply release him and not have to pay the $1.625mil since he won't be on the team (salary) and won't qualify for the workout bonus or roster bonus.

Hoping this is precautionary. Its sad to see a guy in his mid-twenties body just giving up on him. Back injuries are terrifying.

It doesn't seem that drastic, I mean from all appearance he's able to do normal, everyday stuff.  JS not being able to play NFL football doesn't mean he's disabled.

The guy has had three back surgeries thus far due to slipped disc's. Just came out he tweaked his back in the spring. He's more than likely looking at some kind of disability sooner than later.
