Shame on you that take most any of this game seriously.

All of the best teams take it serious when their starters are in.  There is no way the gameplan for the first team was to play like shit.

Save the concern for the regular season when the games really count. You know, limit your heartburn.:ninja:

"I thought he was just an extra kicker for training camp" Randy Bullock as he cleaned out his locker Monday morning.

Marvin Lewis: There is not a kicking competition. Solidifies Bullock is their guy.

No surprise. Then Brown will get yanked off of our practice squad and go to the playoffs. And we're stuck with Fat Nugent again and won't attempt a FG over 45 yards all season.

I read that Brown was missing 20-40 yarders in camp.  Has distance but is inconsistent.

Still not sure why Marvin would come out & say that.

Smoke?  I can see Brown here and Bullock in Pittsburgh where, I think, they are having kicker problems.

I honestly think that Brown will be kicking somewhere.  If not here, someplace else.

It’s possible. But kicking in a real game is probably a confidence booster for him. My problem with Marvin writing him off is that his skill set is a WEAPON. Based on that kick last night, he seems to have enough range to hit from 60+. A team can use that. This team can use that. Figure out a way to keep him on board.

Hell yeah. Look what Justin Tucker does for the Ratbirds. He can reliably nail 55 yarders (or more) when their offense stalls just past their opponents midfield, which thankfully is often.

Really my problem with writing him off is just that - why say anything? There are very few guys on this team so awesome as to deserve guaranteed starter spots and those are the type that don't need to be told.  They know they're better than the next guy, or at least have the confidence to believe it themselves. I don't see the benefit of telling a very average kicker like Fat Randy that he's safe. If he's so mentally weak that the competition unnerves him that's all the more reason to cut him IMO.

I get a kick out of the fact that Bullock has a career year when he was forced to compete for his job against a young kicker. So instead of doing the same thing this year, you tell him that no competition is needed any longer. Marvin has been a fuckup when it comes to his specialists for awhile. Keeping Brad St. Louis too long, keeping Graham too long, keeping Nugent too long, drafting Elliot in the 5th, only to cut him, and now declaring no competition between journeyman kicker and relative unknown who has so far risen to the occasion.

Did you ever think that he said that to keep the pressure off Brown?  Brown now is also under no pressure, so he can just go kick.

When Marv said this he did not specifically indicate Bullock.

He likes being all boogley-boogley mysterious.

Just as likely that Randy is the odd man out.

I’d like my kickers to be accustomed to as much pressure as they can handle.

And the rest of the team as well.  Sort of the same reason I don't like treating Eifert like a precious Fabergé egg. How do they expect players to gut out soreness and minor injuries when they know they can spend 2 years on IR and still have a reserved seat? This team is mentally soft and have collectively shit themselves in their biggest moments.  Players & coaches come & go, but the results have stayed the same.  All these new guys aren't going to mean shit if that mentality doesn't change with them.
