Re-sign Eifert

Why would Kroft or Uzomah sign for back-up money knowing they'd be starters by week 4? What is this insistence on giving Eifert more money for nothing? I promise there are TE's in this draft who can play NFL football without disintegrating. I'm sorry none of them scored a bunch of touchdowns back in 2015 but how does that help us now?

This Eifert obsession is mind boggling.

Let. It. Go.

First time writer, I have been a fan my whole life. Love the coaching hires, really looking forward to seeing that play out on the field. Do you think we will go after linebackers in free angncy and the draft. Go bengals, Chad Kaminaki, Titusville, PA

CHAD: Thanks for mailing it in and hope you do again soon. No question. Linebackers are a big priority this offseason, particularly in the draft. They’ll choose a couple and one of them you would think on the first two days in the three first rounds. I don’t see them spending top dollar on a backer, but I could also see them getting a solid veteran in the second or third wave and they won’t care if he’s an unrestricted free agent.

While theres a new sheriff in Coach Zac do you think ownership will loosen the wallet for free agency? With so many needs and large cap space could we see some activity? Doug Pritchard, Dayton, Ohio.

DOUG: To me, that’s not the question. We know they’ll loosen the wallet on their own free agents. What you want to know is if they’ll loosen the wallet on unrestricted free agents and be willing to give up compensatory picks. I could see them going for some second-wave UFAs, but I still think their major, big-money focus is going to be on their own guys and in my mind they’d probably love to execute three major extensions before the next kickoff: A.J. Green, Tyler Boyd and William Jackson.

I'd try to sign two of the TE's, but only at a reasonable price and I'd re-sign Dennard.  If I was gonna re-up an OL (which I wouldn't), It would probably be Sugar Tits.  That's basically it for UFA's.  Pretty ambivalent toward the RFA's.

Wouldn't want to risk those late 6th round comp picks by signing an offensive line!

Unless we let Dennard go, we won't be in line for any high comp picks to begin with. Nobody is going to give Eifert a high base salary.  Playing for comp picks this year would be really stupid. That means the Bengals might well do it. A year like this when we don't have much at risk is the right time for us to add talent from other teams.

Agreed. It's an asinine way to approach free agency. Let's do nothing to improve so we get some extra late round picks that will likely turn in to camp fodder and practice squad players. It's great to see that Hobson has already started his newspeak about Green, Boyd and Jackson needing to be re-signed one day as the reason the Bengals will once again sleep in on the first days of free agency.

Let. It. Go.

Because last season he was producing at a great rate, suffered a freak injury, not a continuous one born of physical defect.

Because he can likely be had for a relatively cap friendly number and the upside is greater than almost anyone available.

We we get him back with one of Kroft or Uzomah, and draft a dude, and that’s probably gonna be optimal.

One of the few of our own I'd like to keep.  Not because he's great, but I think he can at least do what Pacman Jr has been doing, only without all the theatrics.  I'd rather give him Dre's money based on that alone.

All I know is it keeps happening and I'm over it.   Kraft, Uzomah, and one of those 6th round draft picks all have a better chance of playing 16 games next season.

Last season’s injury was a freak occurrence. John Cena, a random ninja, or the Mountain from Game of Thrones all would have suffered the same fate.

By all accounts, he seemed to have full capacity until that moment, no recurring signs of back nor ankle issues.

Cap friendly deal, you do it. Conversely, I don’t understand what you can’t get about it. It’s a pretty simple prospect to wrap your head around.

As bad as oboogie was, if we can get him back super cheap we should. Just to see if the new staff can work some magic with the kid and salvage that former 1st round pick.

Absolutely not.  The worst thing you can have in your locker room is a guy who was an utter bust get a new deal.  Guy made $8.7 mil and was utter garbage.  New staff MUST clean out the garbage and that includes Cedric.  I would rather give a guy like  Billings or Hart another deal or year.

I would add "guys who have been on scholarship deals for the last 3 years despite not being able to answer the bell" to that list.   If they want to chance the culture & perception, letting go of people who are only on contract for sentimental reasons would be a good start.

The sad fact is that Eifert gets hurt every time he touches the field.  How much more time and energy do we want to waste on that?  How many years of these "freak" injuries do we need to watch before we accept it?
