!!! Bengals 2019 FOURTH Round pick QB Ryan Finley!!! #104

Ryan Finley picked No. 104 by Bengals in 2019 NFL Draft

Ryan Finley is officially an NFL quarterback. On Saturday, Finley finally heard his name called by the Cincinnati Bengals with the 104th overall pick in the 4th round of the 2019 NFL Draft.

Finley had an option to leave last year following a highly productive season with the Wolfpack, but came back to further improve is stock for the NFL level. While he didn't go in the first round on Thursday night -- where some NFL analysts believed he would prior to his final season -- Finley still has a chance to immediately carve out a role with the Bengals.

After transferring from Boise State as a grad transfer, Finley put together one of the best three-year careers of any quarterback in NC State history. Finley became just the second quarterback in program history to pass for more than 10,000 yards behind only Philip Rivers with 10,501 for his career.

He also finished with a record of 25-14 over his three years in Raleigh -- undefeated against UNC-Chapel Hill -- and made three consecutive bowl games with the Wolfpack. That led to All-ACC First Team honors in his final season and All-ACC Academic honors as he completed his second graduate degree with the Pack.

Prior to the season, ESPN draft analyst Todd McShay called Finley the No. 1 QB in the class and still said he should be considered higher than Daniel Jones -- who was taken by the Giants at No. 6 overall -- leading up to the 2019 NFL Draft.

"He's a pro-style quarterback who's efficient," McShay said of Finley. "He's not great in terms of his physical tools. He's got enough arm strength, he's intelligent, he's played well in tough situations, has a lot of the toughness you look for and he throws with anticipation and gets the ball out on time.

"There are some other players that could start to creep up. But to me, Finley is probably the most pro-ready quarterback in college football."

At the NFL Combine, Finley surprised some by running a 4.73 40-yard dash and posted a 30.5-inch vertical jump. Though his athleticism has never been his strong suit, Finley has always been identified as a quarterback with an accurate arm and a smart decision-maker -- hence having the highest Wonderlic testing scores among all QBs in the class.

With a chance to compete right away for a vital role at the NFL level, Finley has a chance to put together a long NFL career after a successful tenure with the Pack.

BEST QB in the DRAFT !!!

(my #1 choice, could the jinx be over)

I would have rather got Jake Browning as an UDFA. Local buy and that guy makes whoever he plays for a better team instantly..

They drafted this guy to see if he can replace Andy over the next two seasons, to avoid having to pay Andy Dalton way too much money. I like it.

Yeah for all the hate Andy gets I'm surprised this thread was so far down.   Some people are writing about this guy like he could immediately push AD in camp.

I doubt Finley gets to sniff the field unless Dalton is injured.  Long term he might be looked at as a replacement since Dalton's contract is up after 2020 and the new staff didn't draft or develop him.  I don't see MB wanting to give Andy $25-30 million a year but he might have no choice if Andy re-establishes himself with a strong season in 2019.  If he doesn't then who knows what will happen.  Finley has a nice profile at NC St and showed traits (accuracy, lots of experience) which typically translate to NFL success.  I think it's kind of crazy that Daniel Jones went so much higher in the draft than Finley considering their respective careers in the ACC.

It doesn't make much sense to draft a QB to be a backup. It's much better to pay a veteran who has washed out somewhere else. Finley may beat out Driskel because of draft investment but having live NFL snaps is important for a backup because they don't get many in practice.

Yes, every team drafts QBs. They hope to find the next Brady. Nobody thinks Finley is the next Brady. If we're trying to find our next franchise QB to replace Dalton, by all means use a high pick on him. But if we're simply trying to replace Driskel, we should sign someone with prior starting experience. Josh McCown, Chad Henne, Colt McCoy type players.

New England Patriots - 2014 - Jimmy Garrapolo - 2nd round.

New England Patriots - 2106 - Jacoby Brissett - 3rd round

Fucking morons, those Patriots.

They drafted Garrapolo to be Brady's successor if Brady retired. He didn't so they traded Garrapolo for what they could get for him. Same thing with Brissett. They drafted another QB this year too. None of those rookies are going to beat out Brady. If Brady gets injured the rookie won't be on the field either, it will be Hoyer or another vet.

So using a 2nd or 3rd round pick to be a successor for a Hall of Famer that has shown no signs of slowing down is a waste, but a 4th rounder to have a reliable back up is a waste? Asking for a friend.

Brady was suspended recently for 4 games and guess who filled in for him?  Jimmy G and Brissett.  It worked out pretty well for them too.
