ESPN insiders say Bengals are at least 5 years away from Super Bowl contention

That isn't even 20-20 hindsight. Having the Quitter sit that year was absolutely the right thing to do. It was never "in favor of" Kitna--it was a placeholding. That team had no chance of protecting a wet-behind-the-ears (Heisman or not) from getting completely destroyed. That Jon was able to keep them even somewhat upright, was a miracle in and of itself. The following year, after the Quitter declared himself "ready", he was put in--and promptly went 1-4 out of the box. But, he got better, and was obviously more comfortable during the course of the entire season--having the "learning" year to draw from.

I say: we never would have had 2005, without that learning season.

Nonsense, one of the best offensive lines we ever had.  All kinds of weapons.  I never said START him day one.  He could have just as easily gone 1-4 in 2003  after the bye week since the team was already 1-4.  The team was NEVER going to get to the 10 wins it needed to make the playoffs at that point.  Sorry, team started 1-4 so at some point it was time to get him reps so he would be ready for 2004.  Just think if he had 6 or 7 games under his belt BEFORE 2004 started?  Marvin could NEVER see the big picture.

This wasn't Patrick Mahomes sitting behind 3 time pro-bowler Alex Smith who was 50-26 with the Chiefs and had finished the previous season 12-4, it was 2-10 Jon Fucking Kitna who at one point in 2002, got benched for Gus Ferrotte AND Akile Smith.
