The Bengals were one of those teams and they pulled off such a move with guard John Jerry. Jerry was released on Saturday as the team dropped to 53 players, but he’s already back on the roster. The Bengals announced Jerry’s return along with tackle O'Shea Dugas‘s trip to injured reserve. Dugas signed with the team as an undrafted free agent and waiting until after cutdown day to put him on injured reserve allows the team to bring him back later in the year if so desired. Jerry started 56 games for the Giants from 2014-2017, but was out of the league after being released last September. He joins Andre Smith and Billy Price as reserve linemen in Cincinnati. I probably should have removed them and added the two new guys but didn't think of it.
Le Tigre
You gave me a start. But anyhoo...one thing leads to another: back down to 3 (sort of ) OT's and a mishmash of (sort of) guards and centers. Jerry was completely horrid at LT in attempting to reprise a Boling. That position is beyond thin--bordering on catastrophic.

That position is beyond thin--bordering on catastrophic. Once again set to hang an entire season on one questionable OT staying healthy. I simply can't get my head around how a team puts in all this work & effort in other areas, then sets themselves up for failure like this. At times it feels like they are purposefully building in an excuse, like "oh well we would've been great but that ONE GUY who hasn't been healthy since fidget spinners were a thing got hurt for the 20th time! What can you do? See ya next year & be sure to buy a hat on your way back to the parking lot in the 3rd quarter!" How does anyone including the players take this team seriously when the FO refuses to get out of their own way? So frustrating seeing all the general excitement for the new season & knowing your team once again hasn't even bothered to assemble an NFL roster. Maybe instead of posting the win-loss record they can post the franchise's quarterly earning statements since that's the only reason they exist. ps; I am looking forward to seeing how this "all our linebackers suck, let's play football without linbackers!" strategy works out. Definitely some fresh, new, out-of-the-box thinking there.
Le Tigre
And your one OT who you hoped would not be hurt, can't get out of concussion protocol after more than two weeks. The catastrophe begins. New Dey.

The catastrophe begins. New Dey. Shit, I meant Andre Smith. I haven't counted Glenn since they tried moving him to guard, he was already a backup LT on paper. If he's still having concussion symptoms he should probably consider hanging it up, I know I would. I thought he might get released if Williams looked capable. Smith was a 3rd-string back-up 6 weeks ago. He was a borderline RT 5 years ago. Now he's our starting LT because LOL DGAF. Though I can believe there isn't anyone better in free agency now. The time to make that move was, naturally, before we desperately needed it. This team needs to hold another open try-out & find us another Kaesviharn or someone who can play. We have room. Relax, ole "Whats his Name" will probably be available near the end of the season at tackle so we can make that late run to get that 9th pick in the draft. We can draft an over roided WR from Ole Miss.
Le Tigre
Was just looking at the Texas bio for our Mr. Widget, Trey Hopkins. Looks like his sophomore year, he started 13 games for UT--but was a RT. Other than that...totally a guard. Desperate times, calls for desperate means. Le Tigre
Wells looks like sort of a possibility--39 NFL games with 9 starts--sure as hell would beat Jerry in a pinch. Not sure which side he played though. Yeah agree

Granted, which is why they worked them out. As to the 2nd part.. I'm sure Taylor knows the system better than anyone but I don't think he's a good fit at LT. Mental errors can be corrected over time, but if someone simply lacks the ability...
Le Tigre
Ah yes...the "know the system" out card. Seriously, Ken, did you happen to see Jerry attempt to play LT against the Colt nobodies? He was beyond awful--a complete fish out of water. People always used to bash Dennis Roland-but at least he was an actual tackle, and not a career guard who has sat for a year. "Know the system" is not going to help this guy.
